It is more that what is going on right now is disrupting education. Columbia has gone all online for classes for the rest of the semester. That is annoying.

I've heard conflicting reports about this. I saw a report that Columbia gave the option to attend class remotely in addition to in person. But seems like a lot of this is muddy at this point as the administration isn't quite sure how to handle the situation.

At the very least, this type of behavior and reactions to it can devalue the education experience and prestige of the degree. I wonder how much of this nonsense is limited to the humanities departments of these schools.

Heard an interview with a Jewish student at Columbia on NPR. He felt by going hybrid (you can do 100% home if you want ), the university was basically telling him “we can’t/won’t protect you”. Kind of hard to argue against that.

Online courses are horrible. They are letting the terrorists win. What a dumb decision.

I'm completely agree. Grad school was really important for me for so many reasons other than just education and I would have missed out if I just did online classes.

That student is correct. Columbia knows what they should do, they just won't do it. They need to hold in person classes and protect all students and suspend or expel any students that make a threat to another student. This isn't hard and they have the resources to do it.

What is going on at Columbia is "Trumpism" at its most glorious crescendo!

Texas seems to be handling the protesters just fine.

Its a school first. Plus its a private institution, so there's no issue with state-sponsored deprivation of speech. There's no right to free speech on that campus. Not legally.
