Yeah, I'm just so tired of all of this. JD Vance said something to the effect that school shootings are a just a fact of life now. But thoughts and prayers, thoughts and prayers.

An 8-year-old finds a loaded gun in his car while his mom is in the Maverick buying a treat and shoots and kills himself. Horrible tragedy, but any of us could have been there that day and taken a bullet. Why does someone have a loaded gun in their car? Can we not pass laws against this crap?

It's just all so insane.

We can’t allow women Nd their health care providers to be trusted to make their own reproductive health decisions, but are are fine letting parents buy AR-15’s for their 14 year olds even after they have been investigated for threatening to go on a shooting rampage.

One X user observed that GOP politicians would care a lot more if the school was full of embryos instead of kids.

It bothers me that Ted's feeble gang deflection has consumed so much oxygen in this thread. The gunman was a neo-Nazi, white supremist with a gun and a grudge. I know it, you know it and Ted, more than anyone else, knows it. Ted and his tribe (no pun intended) are still reeling from the bad press of Pittsburgh, Buffalo and El Paso and don't want Allen, Texas added to the list. Yeah, Ted is simply protecting his own, but why are so many here playing along?

Because it does not make sense in my view. If I recall the events correctly: a Jewish synagogue was targeted in Pittsburgh, a predominately black neighborhood grocery store was targeted in Buffalo, and a Walmart frequented by Hispanics was targeted in El Paso. If a neo-Nazi or whomever was targeting a specific group, he went to a location with a high density of that group. That is not the case in the Allen, TX shooting- a point I have raised because of the demographics where I live. Something else to consider: the gunman in the El Paso shooting was from none other than Allen, TX. So why does he drive across a large state (600+ miles) to kill people when he could have just driven a few miles to a crowed outlet mall where he lives? Hate crimes involve a grudge against a specific group. I'm not sure the Allen, TX shooting fits that definition. It looks like the gunman just wanted to kill people including his fellow Hispanics.

Collin County is 51% White and non-Hispanic. So it depends a little in how you define that.

And yes, it leans Republican, but not by that much anymore. What I remembered wrong on the presidential vote was that it was in my congressional district TX-3 where Trump won by less than 1%. Sorry about that. Of course the legislature redrew the lines as soon as they could for 2022 not only to prevent it from flipping in the future but I think probably also to punish our more moderate Republican rep Van Taylor, a traditional free market but not MAGA enough Republican. He was one who happened to vote for a bipartisan commission to investigate Jan. 6.

I didn't mean to disagree that there are some weird seeming contradictions with the shooter. Obviously he was mainly interested in finding a place to kill a lot of people fast. Neo nazism still fits with a taste for violent destruction.

Collin County Texas is actually not overwhelmingly white. An affluent area, yes. But it smashes the old school stereotype of what upper middle class suburbs look like ethnically. It's very diverse. If you find the stories about the victims, pretty sure at least half are not white. It's where I live and I really like it. The schools are top notch and my kids are growing up with friends of all backgrounds. It's not exactly the type of place someone with a 1950s southern segregationist ideal would like at all. Also, it's not that solidly GOP red. Trump won the county in 2020 by less than one percent.

I don't need you to tell me the demographics of a city (Allen) where I have lived for 30+ years. Maybe Frisco (or wherever you live) is more ethnically diverse than Allen but I'm active in my community and know what I experience and see every day. According to the US census, 67% of Collin County identified as White so maybe "overwhelmingly white" was a reach but not sure if that equates to "very diverse". Virtually all elected politicians in Collin Country are GOP - that cannot really be disputed as I cannot recall a Democrat winning any election - that would be newsworthy. In the 2020 election, Trump received 51.26% of the vote to Biden receiving 46.92%. That 4.34% difference is not "less than one percent".

Edit: To amend my earlier comment about the Allen Outlet Mall shooting....
My point is that if someone were a Neo-Nazi (or whatever) and wanted to target minorities, Jews, immigrants, political opposition, etc. the choice of Allen Premium Outlet Mall was a poor choice - Allen and Collin County is majority White and solidly Republican. Despite BlueK's protest, Democratics in Collin county did not win any election in 2020 - national, state, or county. If someone wanted to carry out a hate crime against a minority group, there are plenty of other places in the Dallas Metroplex to choose from. If a someone wanted to target an affluent area that would be crowded on a Saturday afternoon and create havoc in a place where violent crime is rare, well, we know the result.

I think it's possible he considered himself affiliated with multiple gangs. That Texas tattoo is another one (in addition to the one on his hand) for Tango Blast. Also, being in Tango Blast does not prevent a member to be part of a different gang (another prison gang or white supremist group). What doesn't add up to me is a Hispanic male who seems to want to identify as Tango Blast as well as Aryan Nation/White Supremacy who goes to an outdoor mall that is overwhelmingly filled by white people in a county that is solidly GOP/Red. It's like someone who wants to pick a fight with a Mormon going to a Jewish synagogue to do so. The only thing that makes sense to me given the current information is that he was troubled and had mental challenges which may explain why much of this seems illogical. But that is the case with many mass shootings, especially ones involving children, they don't make any sense.
