Looking at the frequency and consistency of mass shootings in American in the last two decades, any honest person would admit they are a fact of life. So is child abuse, murder, rape, etc. Saying that doesn't mean we shouldn't do everything we can to prevent them.

I don't think people assumed he enjoyed that it was a fact of life before that bit was included in the reporting. Yes, it's technically a fact of life, but in only one country in the world so we know that it doesn't need to be. It's the choice of that phrase people don't like. It betrays an acceptance that this is just how things are and the usual ineffective, broad, stupid suggestions like "we have to beef up security so psycho's can't do this" are just fake solutions put forth by people who seem to never have been on a school campus.

It just plays into a narrative that repubs have put forward that "well, this has happened again" and we're limited to 1) sending thoughts and prayers, 2) making fortresses out of our schools and 3) arming the teachers. I fully agree that more must be done. I just don't believe he is serious about doing everything that needs to be done.

Sure, but what is lost in this minor correction/retraction is what else he said about gun reform. Stricter gun reform laws shouldn't even be part of the conversation since school shootings happen everywhere, even in blue states. So really he doesn't want to do everything to try to prevent them.

What parent buys their child an AR for Christmas 2023, after that kid has had a visit from the FBI after threatening to shoot up his school?

That parent needs to do just as much jail time as his child. FFS.

We can’t allow women Nd their health care providers to be trusted to make their own reproductive health decisions, but are are fine letting parents buy AR-15’s for their 14 year olds even after they have been investigated for threatening to go on a shooting rampage.
