I agree with USUC. Teaching general gun safety and shooting skills to a young kid using a pellet or BB long gun is perfectly reasonable. Teaching tactical carry/draw/fire/clear/reload techniques with a handgun, even if it's a toy handgun, is completely different. Youth under 18 can't legally possess a handgun in Utah, and as far as I'm aware there are no exceptions such as in the presence of their parent/guardian or at the range, so there is no point in conducting that kind of training at the age of 5 (I have no idea what state the video was filmed in).

Thanks to both of you. That all makes sense.

Also, don't sell yourself short, I consider you a gun person based on your description.

A minor under 18 years of age may not possess a handgun

In theory I don't have an issue with teaching young kids about guns. I had my son shooting a red rider bb gun with me at 5. I talked to him about the consequences of a bullet and that he should know where the barrel of a gun is at all times starting at about 5. But teaching him tactical shooting with a real firearm at best seems like a waste of time and at worst giving an underdeveloped mind just enough skill to make a very poor decision.

I'm trying to highlight that both sides of the family did some weird things. It seems like a mass shooting will elicit such things. So apologies up front if any of the family frequents our site.

But the "peculiar people" thing was joke.

Normally, I don't obsess over music like that, but this song is scratching whatever itch I need scratched. However, trying to put lipstick on the hog of a murder/suicide guy is kinda beyond the pale. You can't spin something like that; you can't look for the good in it. As Dwight Schr-ute said on Facebook, "It doesn't work like that."
You know, if a few more of us trash the family on facebook, we can really teach these folks a lesson on how to behave in times like this.

I guess I didn’t realize the church had a gray area in terms of the evilness of violence and murder.
People complaining about the church not making a statement are really dumb.

Also that obituary was completely tone deaf. Oh good, he loved to spend time with his family when he wasn't killing them.

They ask the media to not politicize the killings, and then go right ahead and politicize it.

    Just gross.

    That statement is absolutely gross.
