This is happening because

1) the US has a violent culture.

2) the country is awash in firearms

3) the country has constitutional protection for private gun ownership, therefore #2

4) mass shootings are a social contagion.

Three children and three adults dead at Nashville elementary school. The shooter was carrying two assault rifles and a handgun. I no longer visit CB, but I'm guessing they're generally blaming this on teachers not being armed. When is enough enough?

that is one of the things they are blaming it on, but mostly just anything other than guns. or you could just read ted's posts and you have the general consensus on cb.

I have no idea what any of this has to do with black history but as for the 2nd amendment ask these 1.5 million children how they feel about their country's gun control. But, nevertheless, you should give it a try... seems simple enough:

I realize that in your circles it's more dangerous for children to be exposed to black history in schools than it is to be exposed to assault rifles in schools, but at what point do dead children cease to be acceptable collateral damage in the defense of the 2nd amendment?

I have no idea what any of this has to do with black history but as for the 2nd amendment ask these 1.5 million children how they feel about their country's gun control. But, nevertheless, you should give it a try... seems simple enough:

I read the profile the FBI lone wolf profile years ago. Seems like it was typically a white male...and then I forget the rest.

wasn't the guy who went nuts on that bus in Canada, stabbing, decapitating and cannibalizing a random person, an older asian guy (though, iirc, he wasn't "elderly")? apparently there is no shortage of insane older asian guys out there.

What in the world? I've never considered 70 year old Asian men a high risk group for mass shootings, but two shootings in two days in CA, both by elderly Asian men. 17 dead. Just awful.

I own guns and have a CCW permit but I don't consider my self a "gun person" in the sense that I don't immerse in "gun culture" to the degree that some do.

I agree with USUC. Teaching general gun safety and shooting skills to a young kid using a pellet or BB long gun is perfectly reasonable. Teaching tactical carry/draw/fire/clear/reload techniques with a handgun, even if it's a toy handgun, is completely different. Youth under 18 can't legally possess a handgun in Utah, and as far as I'm aware there are no exceptions such as in the presence of their parent/guardian or at the range, so there is no point in conducting that kind of training at the age of 5 (I have no idea what state the video was filmed in).
