Happy Father's Day
Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I'm sure this isn't the direction you were suggesting with this post, so sorry for threadjacking.
I called my dad earlier today to wish him a happy father's day, and after talking with him for a while, I decided to do the same with my grandfather. For some reason, though, I couldn't find his phone number. I'm positive that I had it programmed in my phone before, but it wasn't there today, and none of my family answered when I called to ask if they had the number. So I decided to write a letter instead. I just got done typing it when I came across this post.
It may be all the better that I wrote instead of calling, because I'm a little bit better at putting thoughts into words on paper than in speaking. I thanked him for all he has done for me and for my family. He's been one of those people I've always looked to when I have thought about what kind of person I want to be. He can hardly give a piece of advise that I don't take seriously and cherish. He's easily been one of the most influential people in my life, and has been for as long as I can remember.
I didn't think of my own dad in that same light for most of my years growing up. My dad isn't the kind of person who likes to be in the spotlight, where everybody can see all of the good that he does. He'll quietly do his work and let others thrive thereby. For some reason, I've never been able to explain my relationship with my dad without making him sound aloof, which could hardly be further from the truth. He coached my little league teams, attended my band concerts, went to my games and matches, listened to me speak at symposia, and has generally done everything he could to be a part of my life. It was about the time that I left on my mission that I really started to appreciate my dad for the man that he is and how much I hope to be like HIM, too.
So I read articles like this and try to imagine what I would be like without people like my dad and my grandfathers. I don't doubt that there are truly great individuals out there who have led remarkable lives without comparable paternal influences. Maybe there's nothing "obviously essential" about fathers in general. Even so, they have sure been essential to me.τὸν ἥλιον ἀνατέλλοντα πλείονες ἢ δυόμενον προσκυνοῦσιν

Happy Father's Day, everyone!"I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

Happy Fathers Day!!
i got a notre dame lego set this morning…so far it’s been a better day than Christmas!"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I spoke in CA's brother's ward today. Between the RM that went over and leaving time for the Stake President, I cut my talk down to about 5 minutes on the fly.

My wife was talking about fathers in primary and mentioned that her dad is 80. One of the little girls in sunbeams piped up that her dad is 100. He was glad to be the celebrated centenarian of the ward.“Every player dreams of being a Yankee, and if they don’t it’s because they never got the chance.” Aroldis Chapman
