    Sorry...that wasn't my point.

What I see when I look at this is a life gone horribly wrong. This man, however despicable he is now, started out as a sweet little boy, probably not so different from my own. Through a likely rocky life, he transformed from an innocent child to a man capable of doing what he did--only God knows how responsible he is for this. It's an awful tragedy of a wasted life, but like it or not, God loves him, and in a deeper way than I love my own children.

I'm all for preventing tragedies like this from happening again, and if the death penalty is truly deterrent, then it may have a place in society; otherwise, it seems like it just piles on more senseless tragedy and mires us in seeking peace through revenge.

EDIT: I just realized that I'm focusing on the man in the story. I confess to only reading a little blip on the story that discussed what the man did to hide the remains and didn't read anything further, so I have no idea what the woman's role was. I'm not really interested in reading more of the details.

At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

The desnews is reporting that the prosecuters are saying that there is not enough evidence to bring charges against the mom and step dad yet. But they do intend to seek charges of aggravated murder for both the slain boy's mother and stepfather.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Just when I think I might be starting to change my opinion about the death penalty, stories like this one pop up, and I feel like this person has forfeited their right to live.

After looking at their photographs I think that these suspects look pretty healthy. If convicted they could still serve society...between them they have two livers, hearts, four kidneys...

          for transplantations!

Sierra Newbold. Another case for the death penalty.

This hit way to close to home. She played in the same soccer league as my boys. My wife volunteers for the league and had just placed her on a team for next season the week before she was killed.

Christian ideals are Christian ideals, and their existence doesn't depend on the difficulty of keeping them. Christ was pretty clear in teaching that revenge doesn't bring peace--most psychologists would agree.

As for your punishment motive, is that really government's role? We can't ever really provide "justice"--only God can do that. We institute laws and penalties to preserve order. Deterrence should interest us much more than punishment, and I have yet to see any proof of a deterrent effect of the death penalty.
              Gosh that was well-stated.
