  • Why I'm for the death penalty

    One word: punishment.

Missing 4 year old boy found. Dead. Killed by his mother and step father. This stuff fucking pisses me off.

Okay, maybe my pro death penalty stand is also about revenge. People who kill children should die slow painful deaths. Maybe then it would stop.

I wonder how many people against it have had loved ones murdered. That SOB that was a governer in Illinois freed all of them and none of the murder victims families were in the room at that time. Just people that got off on technicalities. Seeing an innocent person aquited does not change my opinion of the death penalty.

Innocent people are killed in cars. There are people we know that did it. When I was growing up an Evil Man picked up a girl ubducted her, Shot her and did the deed again. Said he got religion behind bars. Didn't have it before that. Came real close to getting executed but one technicality or another put it off. Went to Hell the Easy way by a heart attack. His victim was in Pocatello. Things like that make me support the death penalty.

Besides BOM says if someone was afraid to die they would not murder. Thing is Capital Punishment is not used often enough that people that murder have no fear so not an effective tool thanks to evil organizations such as the Anti Christ Lawyers Union or American Crime Lovers Union.

      Oh my.

I have been following this story closely on the local media. I have been praying that they would fine him. That just breaks my heart.

Death is punishment enough. Hoping that it hurts is beneath us.

Revenge is not a proper motive of a modern society, particularly one that is predominantly Christian. No, no one close to me has ever been killed, but I'm not sure what that has to do with what ideals we claim to espouse. Christian ideals are Christian ideals, and their existence doesn't depend on the difficulty of keeping them. Christ was pretty clear in teaching that revenge doesn't bring peace--most psychologists would agree.

As for your punishment motive, is that really government's role? We can't ever really provide "justice"--only God can do that. We institute laws and penalties to preserve order. Deterrence should interest us much more than punishment, and I have yet to see any proof of a deterrent effect of the death penalty.

Ok, I've calmed down a bit. The revenge part and slow death part are heat of the moment reaction. This stuff just makes me see red and I needed to vent. But the death penalty is proper punishment for their heinous crime.

Apparently, the biological father who lived in Virginia had custody of Ethan and let the boy come stay with the mother in Utah for a visit. I can't imagine the heartbreak and guilt he must be feeling.

In the Trib there's a comment to the story from someone purporting to be an ex-wife of Ethan's father. A second mother to the boy... So sad.

My children and Ethan shared the same father. I want everyone to know Ethan would make your heart melt. He was so sweet and love to give you hugs. He was funny and done the cutest little things. I have taken Ethan of many family vacations. Just me, lil man and my children. He called me momma #2. I treated him as my own.
Stephanie on the other hand is evil. I have know her for serveral. She became the stepmother to my children. I have always said she is the type of person that would spit on the ground and drown her own mother in it. But i can't believe she would do nothing while this Nate guy put his hands on Ethan. Even, if this would of never happen today i couldn't say one nice thing about Stephanie. She abandit my ex-husband and Ethan back in Sept 2009 to be with this guy Nathan. Never once did she send money to help out my ex for child expense. She didn't care! My ex thought he was doing the right thing by allowing Ethan to spend time with his mother. Ethan met Nate for the first time with Stephanie brought him up there to Uath. My ex and Stephanie divorce was finalized April 28,2010. She married this murderer 2 days later.
Ethan i know you can hear me and hear our prayer but i am so sorry this happen to you. You didn't deserve this. I don't know why your mother murder you. We will never understand. We love you. Your bubba and sissy are very hurt but i want you to knwo we will be strong for you. You brought a lot of joy to me and anyone you were around. Your daddy is so sorry for letting you go up there. But i promise we all didn't know. I knew your mother was crazy but i didnt know she was that crazy. I promise Ethan she and Nate will be punished for what they did. Love always mommy #2

What a heart-breaking story. Truly tragic and I hope the father isn't blaming himself for the death.

On the death penalty, I'm against it. I don't like giving any person the power to terminate someone's life, regardless of the circumstances. Of course I would include an exception when someone is defending him/herself.

I'm a big fan of life in prison without the chance for parole. Sitting in prison for the rest of ones life, which can be a long, long time for people who are 31 and 27 years old, should be punishment enough.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Reading that comment from the father's ex-wife is heart breaking.

Stories like this locally have affected my wife and I greatly and it has altered the course of our lives. I hope in our own small way that we can prevent something like this from happening to other children.

I just can't stand stories about little kids being treated this way. Adults have horrible things happen to them too, but somehow the stories involving these little kids just makes me sick to my stomache.

As to the perpetrators, those 1/3 that got cast out of heaven must have been some real scumbags if these kind of people made it and they didn't.

I don't have a moral opinion on whether they should be put to death or not. Death or in prison for the rest of their lives, either way I really don't have a strong opinion. Anything less than one of those two options though and I would have a strong opinion.

Sometimes the punishment fits the crime -- and this appears to be one of those cases IMO.

I don't even want this guy in the position to harm a guard or even another prisoner.

                      I say later buddy.

I agree. However, if both he and the mother are given life without the possibility of parole, they need to be put in general population where they will be dealt with appropriately by the other prisoners.

I like this idea. I can hear Morgan Freeman now... "Two things never happened again after that. They never laid a finger on a child again... and they never walked again. They transferred them to a minimum security hospital upstate. To my knowledge, they lived out the rest of their days drinking their food through a straw."

Yeah, that's difficult to read. To think that these type of people walk among us. Scary.
