    The Sleeping Giant

    I think it's a huge blunder for Republicans to pass the Arizona bill against illegal immigration. This will mobilize the hispanic vote against them like never before. I predict that this bill will neutralize the Republican's post-Obamacare advantage in the midterm elections.

    EDIT: The governor of AZ is Palin on steroids. She is an absolute idiot. She closed the press conference by saying: "I hope we meet again under better circumstances." What is that supposed to mean?

    EDIT 2: I don't mean to be a snob, but her alma mater is Glendale Community College, and she is married to a chiropractor. I'm sure Glendale Community College is a fine institution, but gosh dang it she comes across as an absolute moron. I know some very sharp people who went to UVSC and then went on to Berkeley, etc. I realize that very intelligent people can graduate from small schools. It's not like I went to Harvard, so I don't have a whole lot of room to talk, but she comes across as a big-time idiot.

                  yeah, this has been my experience as well. they feel like the illegals give the legals a bad name.

                      Seems like yet another bad law like the so called Patriot Act empowering law enforcement to hassle me and others just because we have nice sun tans. Government has taken one more step toward the police state.

                              Or look kind of like they shouldn't be here (per the policeman's discretion). For example, if someone driving in AZ has darker skin the police can pull them over and ask for their "papers" even though they didn't violate any laws. Or just walking down the sidewalk. As far as I know there is no law (at least in my state) that requires people to carry identification absolutely everywhere they go.

                                  I have run into some latinos who fall into that category but most of those I have talked with don't. And they sure haven't mobilized for harsher immigration laws en mass.
                                  I think, here in Utah, the growing latino population is going to eventually bring moderation to state politics. If I were a young up and coming republican legislator, I'd bide my time, position myself as a moderate instead of a eagle forum goose stepper.

                                  Didn't Arizona pass some jack ass law aimed at Obama showing his birth certificate?

                                                          In principle, I like the idea of returning illegals to their homeland. This particular bothers me a bit. I could understand that during the course of enforcing another law (speeding, traffic accident, violence, etc) it was determined that they were here illegally, they should be sent back to their homeland. But to randomly pull over people and ask them for their papers, is a bit much for me.

                                                          But than again you have to strengthen the borders or they will be right back. The problem with NOT securing the border is that no only "good" illegals come in but it is becoming increasingly evident that their crime is crossing over in larger number as well. Where is the wall that was supposed to be built?

                                                          The message is: if you can sneak in, you can stay. Very unfair for those who are trying to legally get into the US.......ah that 'fair' term.
