If it were NK alone, I agree with you; however, NK has this really big brother named China that would probably supply food and military support in the event of a war.

I feel really bad for the North Korean people. Word has it they're 6 inches shorter than South Koreans on average, likely due to malnutrition, and they have no way of knowing what's really going on in the world. I also feel bad for them because if KJU is serious about these threats, they're all fixin' to get nuked.

In my anecdotal experience, this is very true. Lots of North Koreans in the Philippines and they are significantly smaller than South Korean friends here. The sad thing is, they know what they're missing and what it is like other places. They just have very little ability to get out or change. It's very sad.

I've heard this too.

I don't see how they can sustain a war of any length based on the malnutrition alone. An army travels on its stomach, and while I'm sure that foodstuffs will be prioritized there, I'm wagering they already have been. Now put in supply lines, etc., and I have a hard time seeing how they can sustain any sort of groin war without immediately capturing the foodstuffs of Seoul. But I'm no military man.

Whatever else may happen as result of the NK sabre rattling, I hope that one option isn't to give more aid.

At least not without some serious concessions. I would go so far as to say that we don't give aid to our enemies. So if they'd like some, they'll need to decide that it is time to end the war. A ceasefire won't be enough. We need a peace agreement.

The White House and DoD are dialing back the heat. Good move, IMO. No need to unnecessarily escalate.

Earlier, a Defense Department official told CNN that from a communications point of view, "we are trying to turn the volume down" on U.S. rhetoric about North Korea. The official, speaking on condition of not being identified, said the change referred to public statements by the Obama administration instead of how U.S. military hardware were being deployed in the region.
According to the official, some Pentagon officials were surprised at how U.S. news releases and statements on North Korea were generating world headlines and therefore provoking a Pyongyang response.
"We are absolutely trying to ratchet back the rhetoric," the official said. "We become part of the cycle. We allowed that to happen."

At the State Department, spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said Thursday the United States needed to take the defensive steps it did in view of North Korea's threats, but she focused on a diplomatic solution available if Pyongyang changed its behavior.
"It was the ratcheting up of tensions on the DPRK side that caused us to need to shore up our own defense posture. We have done that," Nuland said. "But we have also been saying all the way through that this does not need to get hotter, that we can change course here if the DPRK will begin to come back into compliance with its international obligations, will begin to cool things down, take a pause."

Also, it appears that they want to start a war with America and South Korea. I don't think that's a particularly wise move for KJU.

Except for the inevitable and substantial loss of life (a small detail), a war with the NoKo's would be very interesting. I have little doubt that the US and SoKo would crush the North within a week. This would lead to some interesting cultural developments, including some great reality TV as the northerners begin the inevitable assimilation into western culture. This has been done previously with East Germans becoming aware of how much better their western counterparts had it, but the gap between the North and South Koreas (and the ignorance the northerners currently have with respect to that gap) is far, far greater. I want a camera crew following some northerners around as they check out the good life in the south. Many wtf? moments, to be sure.
