My mentor from Georgia Tech died in January. His funeral was in Sandy Springs. I hadn't been there in about 15 years; I hardly recognized the place. It's really sad, all corporate skyscrapers with hardwood trees out front and pinestraw beneath them. That kind of place.

If I'd realized he'd already been banned from Provo, I wouldn't have been as surprised when he was banished from CS.

Provo sucks. It will continue to suck until they give in and let Maple Mountain Brew Co open up. A craft brewery and brewpub on Provo Center Street would actually make that area not suck anymore. Provo has actually done a good job building up its downtown, but it will never be complete without a brewery.

Can you imagine a life where one's happiness did not depend on the proximity of a craft brewery or brewpub? I can't.

If Provo wants to continue it's growth, a craft brewery is something they should welcome with open arms. I really enjoyed this 11 signs that a city will succeed.

They have craft breweries. One final marker, perhaps the most reliable: A city on the way back will have one or more craft breweries, and probably some small distilleries too. Until 2012, that would have been an unfair test for Mississippi, which effectively outlawed craft beers by setting maximum alcohol levels at 5 percent. Now that law has changed, and Mississippi has 10 craft breweries. Once-restrictive Utah has even more. A town that has craft breweries also has a certain kind of entrepreneur, and a critical mass of mainly young (except for me) customers. You may think I’m joking, but just try to find an exception.
Provo should consider doing what is best for its city and not stunt future growth.

Plus, Salt Lake City saw the benefits of allowing brewpubs and breweries to move in. Proper/Epic are going to contribute to another area of SLC being revitalized. The same for Ogden and Park City.

It is nice to have funk back to bring his unique perspective on these things. Don't want anybody getting carried away with any good news.

See, the thing is, a lot of people there think it would suck to have a brewery. Believe it or not, not everyone agrees with you, or with the author of an article in the atlantic who patronizes craft breweries. I know this may a shock to your sensitive system, but it is true.
                          PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Provo may or may not suck, but brewpubs neither enhance nor detract from the quality of the town. IMHO, Provo has made itself much more attractive recently. I wouldn't choose to live there as I don't have any skill sets or connections that would afford me to live there comfortably.

Provo has beautiful views of the mountains, access to BYU sports, access to ski hills, hiking and many outdoor activities, lots of young people and a few restaurants if you include Orem near the mouth of the canyon. Even if you want to imbibe, brewpubs don't define it. Why did you not cry out for wine bars?

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.
