what is wrong with this picture ...

I just deposited a US funds check in my account for: 3,172 and after the exchange I received 3,181. That is just insane ... the last time the Canadian dollar was worth the same as the U.S. dollar was in 1976!

I didn't realize that was still the case. It got up there pretty close a few years ago, but I can confirm that all through 98-00 it hovered around 2/3 of a dollar. How does this get fixed? Balance the budget?

      Yeah it sucks right now.

The US dollar isn't worth what it used to be.

I loved going back to Canada and shopping when the US dollar was 60 cents to the Canadian dollar

      Everything was so cheap.

It demonstrates to me the sorry state of the US economy. It's not in Canada's best interest for the dollar to be on par. Something needs to be done and it's looking more and more like Obama is another Carter.

And you still haven't confirmed wether or not you have eaten dinner in my home but I can see from those years that you served with Heart or Hadley. Hadley is now the current Temple president.

Easy - raise long-term interest rates on the US$ higher than the rate on the Candian $. Real interest rate differentials are what drive exchange rates in the long run.

Oh right I guess I never responded to that. I never served in your zone, so it's unlikely. I spent a bit of time there and dealt with the bishop on occasion, but spent most of my time in Don Valley, Don Mills, and downtown. It seems we may have seen each other and possibly even met, though.

It's been this way for a few years. Gidget and me honeymooned in Vancouver and the exchange rate was 1:1 then. This was about 2.5 years ago.

                  Excuse me. 3,181/3,172 = 1.0028373266078184110970996216898

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
