We were talking about this at work this morning and here are the two major sticking points that come to my mind:

    1. DWI/DUI - How are law enforcement going to be able to tell if someone is DUI? What type of test is going to be acceptable? Blood/Hair? It sticks around too long in the blood and even longer in the hair. Are they going to be able to issue a field test? What laws are going to be put into effect?

    2. Work - I would say 75% of jobs out there have drug screens. I know the field that I work in we have constant random drug tests. I have been randomed 3 times in 1 month. If I fail a random I am fired. I can contest the test, pay out of my own pocket and have a retest done within 72 hours. If I pass that test, it is the companies decision if they bring me back or not.

But if it is legal...where does a company go with a drug test? Because alcohol is legal. You can have a beer or two at night and still come into work. We work with DOT transfer lines, so we get random breathalyzer tests also. Fail and you are gone. With a legal MJ you are going to have major issues.

And I can tell you...in the oil field I would suspect that >50% would be users if legalized.

I would love to hear some of the ideas on how to establish some guidelines.

I do chuckle when the kids at church talk about legalizing MJ. Still against the WoW though.
I'm not a fan of random drug tests. I really wish that people would start refusing to take them. How have we gotten to a point where the majority of society thinks it is acceptable to have their privacy invaded in such a way? Does a kid that bags groceries part time really need to be tested for drugs? What a waste of time and money.

Seriously? If I have my own business I drug test. At my last job they didn't drug test. In fact the president and owner along with several others often smoked up together. I really didn't care. But when I had to go represent our company on certain projects because I was one of two guys (the other was LDS too) that could pass a drug test should I get screened while onsite, I became a bit resentful.

I'm a fan of random drug tests for jobs where safety is a major concern. The_Tick's place of employment would definitely fit that bill. I don't see how working in an office building requires a random drug test though.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

If I own my business, I want to install cameras in the homes of all my employees so I can make sure they aren't doing anything after hours that I would object to.

What if that office is OSHA?

Or what if that office is full of people designing or inspecting airplane parts?

I had a white collar job, right out of school at Boeing, and we had to agree to the possibility of random drug testing and had to pass one to be hired in the first place.

edit: though now thinking back on it, i wonder if it was a mandate from the FAA/DoD.

If Colorado succeeds in getting this on the ballot, and it passes, this could set up a showdown with the feds.

18 members of Congress send the President a formal letter asking him to de-schedule or change the schedule of marijuana.

Obama would rise many notches in my book if he acts on this issue. I'm not sure there's anything he could do that would have a greater benefit on our nation than legalizing weed.

That sounded pretty evangelical. I'm referring to the dollars wasted and lives destroyed by prohibition, not the cure-all amazingness of the reefer.

Maybe he's saving it for his "legacy."

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Also, there is little else he seems capable of doing.
