The line is a 3 hour wait (I think). No commumication from the officials just a line that resembles the soviet bread lines. Seriously how about some frickin communication? When we do get up ther its very possible that we won't even get the damn vaccine. Well at least the wife and kids can sit in the car and watch a movie

Seriously, the way this whole thing is being done does not bode well for a truly dangerous epidemic (bioterrorism etc.). It's not like this is a surprise - we've been hearing about h1n1 for 6+ months. Ridiculous.Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View PostThe line is a 3 hour wait (I think). For over the 6 months and the government can't get enough vaccine for a small subset of the US population?Originally posted by Solon View PostSeriously, the way this whole thing is being done does not bode well for a truly dangerous epidemic (bioterrorism etc.). But does this surprise anyone? You would think it makes sense to send the vaccine to OB's who deal with the most vulnerable. No, that would make too much sense. Unbelievable.

This was a little bit of a unique situation. There were two factors that contributed to the delay: 1) a production error and 2) the virus didn't grow as quickly in the medium as they expected it to (or needed it to for rapid production). There was no way to anticipate #2 and apparently, the production error was a fairly significant mixup that likely wouldn't happen again. Also, neither of these is really attributable to government vs private provision.
This whole thing has been a good dry-run for a real bioterrorism attack or pandemic. At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

How would you rank the priorities? We know the 5-6 major risk groups, but how would you stratify those 5-6 groups? I would think that pregnant women would be at the top considering: "Everyone has their own opinion on the swine flu vaccine, but the CDC has one -- they are urging people to get the H1N1 shot. And their latest statistics say that 28 pregnant women have died after contracting H1N1." Any other group with this high of a mortality rate?Originally posted by ERCougar View PostThis was a little bit of a unique situation. I'd put pregnant women and healthcare workers at the top of the list. I don't know anyone in either group who wanted the vaccine and wasn't able to get it.Originally posted by Hallelujah View PostHow would you rank the priorities? Pregnant women had to stand in line and some, including my sister, couldn't.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostI'd put pregnant women and healthcare workers at the top of the list. I don't know anyone in either group who wanted the vaccine and wasn't able to get it.
Why not send to OB's instead of county health departments for pregnant women?
