Compared to Bush, he deserves a frickin' Nobel peace prize!

...might make a decent relative point, but really?

President Obama said Friday that he was "surprised and deeply humbled" by the decision of the Norwegian Nobel Committee to award him the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.

I'm sorry, but how can you nominate a guy who was in office for 2 weeks, and then give him the award when he is 9 months in his Presidency and the US is in complete shambles...

In my mind, this disrespects all those who were nominated and more deserving of this award. Those who are actually making real changes and differences in people lives...

This choice was political and a farce.. Just before Obama will be deciding what to do in Afghan, etc...

What a joke and insulting to all other nominees...

Why not hold the press conference at Mother Teresa's gravesite so that as a part of the announcement a committee member can pull down their pants and take a crap on her tombstone?

            It was inevitable.

Don't you think you could have let the guy do something to merit it first, though?

                Effort >>> accomplishment?

I hereby award the TDF yellow jersey to Steelblue.

Here is Nobel's original charge, clipped from wikipedia:
The Peace Prize should be awarded "to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses."
And here is the one sentence summary of why Obama received the prize, clipped from wikipedia:

"for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."

I don't have any problem with him winning. I see some of the people who have gotten it in the past and it is an award with about as much meaning to the world as the Oscar.

I would have given the Prize to Greg Mortenson, but the benefit of Obama having won it is that we're treated to wonderful posts on Cougarboard. I'm hoping for a panel discussion comprised of River City Coug, Lifi, and a few others. River City Coug has already commenced, referring to everyone who voted for Obama (our Messiah, and a communist) as idiots.

On the bright side, this probably seals the deal for Glenn Beck's Daytime Emmy.

Not to mention the fact that you folks who dislike him won't have to put up with him much longer. I heard his reaction when Gore won. This might kill him.

Yea, I imagine along with CB, Beck, Limbaugh and Hannity will start going over the top on this thing.

I would just say, the prize is as meaningful as if the Motion Picture Academy gave him an Oscar for his role in the campaign as a moderate.

Why does the far right get so upset when a bunch of liberals hand out an award to one of their own. It just makes them look petty and dumb.
