Alcohol consumption up in Utah

I had Marinol prescribed for me, but my doctor said it wasn't nearly as effective as the real thing and was a lot more expensive. Ended up getting hooked up by a friend's daughter.

Nice. Yeah, smoking is always a more effective way to deliver the drug quickly than taking a pill and then waiting for it to be digested and absorbed and make its way slowly into the bloodstream.

The thing that concerns some doctors is that if you just say "You could go out and find some pot" then you don't really know how much of a cannabinoid drug effect people are getting when they smoke it and you don't know what else they are getting along with the marijuana. At least taking Marinol pills produces a standardized effect even if not as effective as smoking weed.

a lot of drinking non-Mormons moving into an area where a lot of non-drinking Mormons have traditionally lived, and it's not hard to explain a big % increase. Small denominator makes any increase a relatively big % increase.

And don't alcohol sales usually go up in economic downturns? That might have something to do with it as well. And the small denominator would play a role there too...

I wonder what method they are using to get their conclusions? Lower incidences of all those things, I would guess, is due to cultural factors, not effectiveness of the laws.

Wow, Utah's alcohol laws are so effective that it has the lowest incidences of underage drinking, drunk driving, and over consumption! It must be due to shielding kids from seeing how drinks are made, making sure sneaky bars don't trap naïve patrons into thinking they are entering a restaurant, and so forth. Why, you have to be really ignorant to think those common sense laws should ever be tampered with.

Jeez, leave it to someone as insensible as me to suggest that the prevailing dry culture of the majority of Utahns is the most important factor in those statistics. And ignorant to suggest that it is possible to raise kids with a healthy perception of alcohol, even if they do see how cocktails are made.

So what happens when these Utah children venture out beyond the zion curtain (i.e. travel to another state) and see drinks being poured?

I am not a fan of the tight liquor laws in this State although they don't affect me. The church adding their weight to the issue in my mind adds emphasis to the idea the WOW is a serious commandment. Again my perception, but it seems to carry more emphasis than being honest with your fellow man.

On the other hand I would not do anything besides expressing my opinion to try and get the law changed. I also love living in this state because of it's conservative values, which I think in large part is due to the influence of the church.

And besides, the Utah liquor laws (not to mention malls closed on Sundays) keeps the pesky tourists from visiting Utah. Who needs their money anyway?

The good news is that one can follow the Word of Wisdom and now brew mild drinks made from barley in their own homes in Utah...
