a lot of drinking non-Mormons moving into an area where a lot of non-drinking Mormons have traditionally lived, and it's not hard to explain a big % increase. Small denominator makes any increase a relatively big % increase.

And don't alcohol sales usually go up in economic downturns? That might have something to do with it as well. And the small denominator would play a role there too...

While alcohol sales at liquor stores are up, it is down at clubs. Why spend $25 on four drinks at a club when you can score a whole bottle for less than that.

I bet you would see an increase in the under thirty LDS population. Someone told me that LDS kids are waiting longer to get married and along with this the inactive rate has gone up and this as become a major concern for the church. Along with that inactivity I would bet would be an increase in alcohol consumption.

They are drinking more because the alcohol is watered down and need to drink more to get the full effect, lol.

I have always thought mortician must be one of the very most recession proof jobs, though people probably do scale back on the amount they spend there. IPU?

The funeral service is very recession proof, as only licensed funeral directors can legally dispose of human remains. Folks who only want a burial really don't really tend to buy a lower priced casket, but they will cut back on the amount of floral arrangements they buy. The folks that are indecisive about a burial or cremation will tend to go with cremation, as it is a less expensive alternative.

I'll always advise that folks pay for their funeral arrangements as soon as they're financially able to do so, as it's a small relief to not have to think about it no matter what the economy is like.

Sort of. You can only buy it from a licensed provider - many funeral directors get their license to sell the plans - and then the mortuary is paid by the company that sold the plan when the death occurs.

Was that when Chambers fumbled? I didn't look at the clock, but that's when I started drinking. Of course, I don't live in Utah so my boozing doesn't count.

On a side note, when I worked as a cartboy at Target back in the day we were told that on Sundays sparkling apple cider would ring up as an alcoholic beverage. This meant that checkers under 21 had to call a manager over to ring up the Martinellis. Apparently this was the only way they could fill some quota for alcoholsales.
