Since the side walks in some of the areas are not plowed/ shoveled, In the winter the box is about half that size. Gorden Ave on the north, Davis HS on the south, US-91/main st on the west and Fairfield/2nd East on the east
The benefit has been to motivate me to be consistent. I am happier having exercised.

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

With 2.5 weeks left in the challenge the top ten leaderboard is currently looking like this:

      1. Topper 195.5
      2. happyone 173.1
      3. Space Sobchak 151.2
      4. imanihonjin 146.9
      5. Parrot Head 91.9
      6. old man PAC 84.3
      7. Eldiente 74.9
      8. Bo Diddley 70.6
      9. Phedippepajsek;fklajsd;lkfj 70.1
      10. Moliere 66.8

I know there's some miles still out there that haven't been recorded (P-diddy seems to have fallen off the earth), but so far it's nice to see some decent miles being put in. It's also nice to see some new(er to the challenge) faces around the top of the leaderboard.

This year has been especially challenging because of my continuing left leg problems. It seems that every time I take a step forward, I take two steps back. The 10K I ran after Thanksgiving was a dumb idea (but hey it was for charity) as it made my knee pretty sore. It was still cool to see that I can still put in a decent time for that distance though, so it wasn't all bad. I went and bought some decenter shoes as the Kinvaras just weren't working for me. I'm now running in Brooks Ghost 7s and have only logged 2 miles in them so the jury is out. In any case, with LOTOJA looming next year I've been transitioning more to getting a good cycling base so maybe taking a solid break from running won't be such a bad thing.

Anyway, keep up the good work. This is my favorite time of year to get outside and exercise. The weather is perfect and the Xmas lights are out.

I actually just got some Kinvaras. So far so good.

They get great reviews, but my knees/hips weren't enjoying them. I'm finding out that shoes can be very personal.

Well I definitely wouldn't use them for long distance, but for 2 miles per week, it's just what the doctor physical therapist ordered.

A look at the scoreboard shows a lot of folks, including me, have slowed down a bit due to weather and the holidays. But I'm pleased to see while there are lot of people ahead of me, and a lot behind me, I'm on kind of an island where it'd take me a few days to catch up to the those in front, while being comfortably ahead of those behind. I'm not doggin' it and yet not showin' off; right in the meaty part of the curve.

Pac and Moliere, kudos to you. Without this challenge I would be tempted to skip a day now and then.

A confession. The other day I went to a climbing wall for the first time in twenty-five years. Previously I climbed those things occasionally based on strength alone. This time I noticed how much strength has eroded from me. Gonna need to go back to overall body conditioning. It is hard to retain everything.

With the snow we received on Christmas, it looks like the winter routes are now in effect

I must confess, that as long as the wind isn't blowing, I do enjoy walking during a snow storm, esp at night. This may sound a bit trite, but it is almost an ethreal experience for me.

I may be small, but I'm slow.

Does shoveling snow count in this thing?

I just spent an hour digging out my drive way from 10 inches of snow

Yes, if you are running, swimming or biking while you shovel.

                      • It occurred to me that if I swim even a nominal amount, say 25 yards, I will be in 4th place on the swimming portion of the challenge. I should do that today.

                        • I'm making a last minute push to get into the top 10. Rode 53 on Friday and 37 today.....which puts me in 9th place! Look out PAC, I'm gunnning for 8th.

Crap, and I was thinking of taking the rest of the year off... But since Katy is nearly 40 miles back in 11th, I think a top ten finish remains in the bag.

                            • Man, I've really dropped off. I know I'm in no danger of cracking the top 10. But I was wondering if I could count all the snorkeling I've been doing lately. With some of these waves, it really feels like I've been running .

So you rich guys go for tropical vacay during the holidays. I am surprised JL is not down there with you. Of course, maybe he'll jet over with some on their Parisian escursions.
