  • Even though I love my aqua zumba class, I've worn 4 different swimming suits to 4 different classes, and nothing works great. I am now out of swimming suits so don't know what to do next. The problem is that it can be a hard workout, and in some places I have to jump all the way out of the water. If I wear a one-piece swim suit, then then bottoms won't fall off, but there is practically no support in the top and all the women in the class almost pop out. If I wear a two piece swim suit, then the top is nicely supporting, but every time I jump out of the water the shorts fall way down. I tried a pair of surfer shorts with a snap waist, but the extra material on the legs really restricts my range of motion as I do the various kicks under water. This week I tried a pair of boyshorts, with less material, but even tho I cinched the drawstring up super tight when it was dry, as soon as it gets wet everything stretches out.

What can you recommend? How do you dress for your aqua zumba class?

I know you are just joking, thinking that nobody else here does aqua zumba. I do, however, and I am here to solve your problem. Wear your 2-piece swimsuit, but replace the bottoms with a pair of compression shorts. Something like these would work fine:

I've always done my aqua zumba in the nude. Problem solved.

                  • I've tried to simplify my exercise and diet. I re-gained 35 pounds after losing 75 pounds last year. In short, I try to exercise vigorously two hours per day. In the mornings or at lunch, I run 4x per week (25 mins M; 35 mins T; W off; 45 mins Th; F off, Long Run (currently at 7 miles) Sat, Sun off). After I put the kids to bed, I head to the gym and do resistance/circuit training. I don't do anything fixed, but I try to make sure I'm working different muscle groups. After that, I swim laps for 30 minutes, then head home.

My diet is simple: In the morning, I have two apples, a Kind bar, and 24 almonds. If I get hungry before lunch, then I eat more almonds/apples. I drink a gallon of water a day (I buy the gallon jugs at the store...it's a little mroe expensive, but it helps me to remember to drink), and I don't drink any sort of soda or juice. At lunch, I just don't eat anything fried and try to include some meat (don't care if it's lean or not...if it's fatty, I'll reduce how much I eat). I eat a lot of salads at lunch. My go-to restaurant lunch is from Chipotle: 3 chicken soft tacos on corn tortillas with fajita veggies and pico de gallo. It equals about 450 calories, which is nothing for a guy my size. Dinner is the hardest for me. I'm at my wife's mercy, and she cooks a lot of pasta. I will occassionally smoke some meat and steam some veggies and put them in the fridge for backup meals. It works well, but if my wife cooks healthy meals, I often end up wasting some pretty damn delicious food. Fortunately, with the amount of exercise I do, I can consume a shit ton of calories per day.
I've dropped 12 pounds in the last month. I'm hoping to recapture some of last year's magic for another 75 pound loss.

                      • I think that's one too many almonds. Maybe drop it to 23.

                              Thanks, A-hole.

During that time I've been on a weekend trip to Austin, and two business trips, so um....my eating habits are not quite as disciplined when I don't have a drawer full of almonds and gallon jugs of water at my immediate disposal. Also, sometimes lunch gets dicey, and I have to work my ass off at night to earn those calories back.

This sounds like it will get tedious after about two weeks. Or, if it is more helpful to you, after about 336 almonds.
