I really want to start a marathon here, and there is a great highway with awesome views, but the first part is a little steep.
400 feet per mile seems like a lot.

As I recall, the steep descent in St George after Snow Canyon is about 400 ft for a mile or so. 3-4 miles of that would beat most runners up.

But, if its a nice course that you think people would travel to, I don't think the grade should stop you. I say go for it. CUF marathon 2011???

385 feet per mile for the first 4.62 miles. Yeah, it's pretty steep. Here is a link to the route. It's a really cool view, especially in the morning.

Having the grade early in the race might make it doable, but a 6% grade is pretty brutal no matter how you slice it.

Having the grade early could also burn out some legs too, so it is hard to say.

I like hills so it would be good for me. If you build it, they will come. At least I will if entry is free for CUFers.

I have another run that would make 26.2, but it is all dirt trail and gravel road. It is not as steep, but there is a total of 650 feet uphill climb to go with the 2,800 net elevation drop. Still a great view. Any thoughts?

I am starting to recover, but I still have a spot on my knee cap and a spot on my hip that feel like they were kicked by a cow. Is that normal? I've never had places that just felt bruised after a race.

I went out for my first run since the marathon. Too soon. I got out two miles and my groin started hurting. Odd thing is that it was a place that hasn't been sore at all -- during or after the race. Walking home two miles in the cold kind of sucked.

It seems this route requires you to run on water. Hopefully you are paid up on your tithing.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I had the most painful massage of my life last night. I told the masseuse to really go deep and she did - later she said she was shocked I didn't cry out in pain. Truth was it hurt so much I couldn't cry out. But this morning I feel magnificent - slight soreness still, but not enough to make me walk funny. I'm going to try a couple miles tonight.

I plan to run ahead and part it for everyone.

Brown beats green any day of the week, and I'll prove it:

Would you rather root for a team with brown and gold jerseys or green and gold jerseys?

                          Winner, cowboy!

Btw, I did my first post-race run last night. 3 miles. It was tough. I'm still recovering. A 3 mile walk with the dog and my son on tap for this evening.

I'll run for the first time tonight. I feel really good, and I'm looking forward to it.

Ran last Wednesday. It was a disaster. My legs were jelly. Took the rest of the week off.

Today I ran again. 5 miles. Still recovering, but felt much better. Should be back to 100% in a week or so.

I ran a couple of times last week and then did that mud run on Saturday -- rolled my other ankle.

I did 6.5 this morning and felt pretty good.
