I am just sitting around. Not as old as either of you two, but I feel about 70 today. I think my PTSD must have gotten set off somehow because I am just feeling a bit off. Just gotta push through like I always have. Maybe I will go talk to the therapist at the VA.“Every player dreams of being a Yankee, and if they don’t it’s because they never got the chance.” Aroldis Chapman

Yes, go see a therapist! Gotta take care of yourself. And if you ever need to talk, you have my number.

So I guess I am getting old... Saturday evening, the missus and I were in our recliners watching a movie after having overindulged on pizza and fresh chocolate chip cookies (a major deviation from my usual healthy diet, honest!) when my Apple Watch gave me an alert that I had been immobile for more than ten minutes but my heart rate was over 120,. I hadn't noticed, but when I felt my pulse it was both rapid and irregular. I Googled "Should I go to the ER if I have a rapid, irregular heartbeat?" Quick answer: "Yes." So I called the Kaiser advice nurse who, after she consulted with a physician, recommended I head to the nearest Kaiser ER, which we did.
Over the next twelve hours, I was diagnosed and treated for A-fib (atrial fibrillation) which I had never had before, but which becomes more common as one ages. After trying different levels of medication, my HR resumed to normal. Although A-fib by itself isn't a big deal (palpitations and heart flutter are very common), it can lead to potentially dangerous, even fatal blood clotting and strokes as the blood in the atrium kind of pools there. So they've put me on a blood thinner to help prevent that, which for me is a real sign of old-manhood. I feel fine, did a 30-minute row this morning, will walk a hilly 18 tomorrow, and am told my lifestyle and longevity will remain unaffected. I was very happy an echocardiogram showed my heart is actually very healthy, with no issues in the muscles or valves, and I have an ejection fraction of 65 which is optimal.
Those with Apple watches should choose the option to alert you if you have an irregular heartbeat that needs attention--I would not have noticed it or received very helpful treatment if I hadn't had that on.
And I remain a very big fan of Kaiser medical care.

Yikes. That sounds scary. Best wishes.

AFIB is not something to have in the back of your mind and "hope" it doesn't give you problems later. If you suspect, get it checked out. My mom has AFIB. She didn't find out until after a life altering stroke. I worked with stroke patients for years. Many in their 50s had AFIB they didn't know about until after their strokes. If you suspect, get a study done. Better safe than sorry.
-end rant.

My MIL has been going through some AFib and related issues, which have not been fun. Hope it is easy for you, PAC.
Speaking of which, my MIL and FIL recently forgot about Daylight Saving Time. And when I say they "forgot about" it, I don't mean that they forgot the specific weekend it was happening, but that they forgot about its existence. They woke up Sunday puzzled as to why some of their clocks were an hour different than some of their other clocks, and resolved the issue by shrugging their shoulders, going to church, and then waiting for church to start an hour later.
So if you are on the same track, something to look forward to in the fall.

But seriously strokes suck.
