2012 Holiday Running Challenge! Who's game?

Edit: here is the link to the spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...GRlQWRHSmdvbUE

Edit: Here's the link to the map: https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid...5198,36.430664

Edit: The distance from the top of Lombard Street to Battery Park is 2,907 miles. This means no slacking off around the Holidays! Keep it up people!

Anyone interested in having a running challenge/competition to help keep the pounds off during the holidays? I'd be willing to run a stripped down version of a challenge, which would include just a google spreadsheet to enter miles (sorry, I have limited web developing skills). I figured it would be better to just have a competition between the runners so we don't have to worry about converting running miles to cycling miles or doing calories.

I figure we could start next week and have it run through New Years Day. That gives us about 6-7 weeks, which is enough time to make it meaningful without going too long that people lose interest. Maybe I'll even think up a prize that could be given away to the winner.

Let me know if there is interest.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I am game. I made a goal to get under 270 before the end of the year, and so I started writing down what i was eating on myfitnesspal.com and I'm already at 278 after 2 weeks, so I may need to revise the goal.

I've been running about 3-4 times a week, but only for like 3-4 miles at a time.

This might help me to increase my running and continue to do well on my food.
Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

      I'm in.

And as an added bonus, I'm no risk to actually win any kind of contest associated with mileage. My calf pull from last week will make sure of that.

But I'm hoping to get out again and do some kind of mileage starting Wednesday - even if I'm just run/walking it.

I think total distance is one category, but I've been trying to think of others that would entice people not named Nikuman to enter. So far I'm drawing a blank.

          How about consistency?

One of my hardest things is making myself go out a lot each week.

          I dunno, maybe that's dumb.

Probably hard to make a contest for folks who run very differently.

Consistency is a good one. We could gauge it on miles per week, with a minimum number of miles of course so no one sandbags and runs 1 mile every Saturday....not that anyone would do that

I'm game. I'm not a high mileage guy, or fast, but I'll put in my slow plodding miles.

Win, lose, whatever - doesn't matter all that much to me.

To me, just having to report something creates some level of accountability that makes me less likely to stay in bed even if it did snow all night and is cold outside.

I doubt I'll be running more than 3X a week at most through the end of November. But having any kind of "contest" will still get me out those three times.

sounds fun, count me in if you are able to get something organized. A little extra motivation never hurts.

I'll join in, although I am not putting in really high mileage this month.

I'm in, but only if I can be on nikuman's team. Either that, or with Topper and his frau.
