My wife didn't think this thread was funny, and she wants to know where you went to med school cause she doubts your Rx. I think you're a medical genius.

All joking aside, masturbating during a migraine seriously brings some brief, but welcome pain relief. I'm pretty sure that this is not just in my head, but I can't cite anything more than my experience. So while it isn't sex, it's about the best I can manage anyway while suffering a migraine and it is helpful. See, she is looking at this all wrong. No jest was intended. Unfortunately for you she didn't see it as such and the migraines will keep persisting.Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostMy wife didn't think this thread was funny, and she wants to know where you went to med school cause she doubts your Rx. What is butterbur and is it safe for children? My son gets migraines.Originally posted by doctorcoug View PostThis is very fascinating recommendations from the neurologists, a Level A recommendation for an herbal. This doesn't happen very often.
NSAIDs and Complementary Approaches
In a separate document, the AAN/AHS guidelines committee reviewed evidence supporting the use of NSAIDs and other complementary therapies. Fifteen class I or class II studies involved these migraine prevention strategies.
Level A:
Petasites or butterbur is effective and should be offered to patients to reduce the frequency and severity of attacks.
Level B agents considered probably effective:
Fenoprofen;
Ibuprofen;
Ketoprofen;
Naproxen;
Naproxen sodium;
MIG-99 (feverfew);
Magnesium;
Riboflavin (vitamin B2); and
Subcutaneous histamine.
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

Petasin and isopetasin, an herbal with claims to help headaches.Originally posted by marsupial View PostWhat is butterbur and is it safe for children? My son gets migraines.
I make no claim to the safety. I did see a discussion about recommending this to children because parents might feel more comfortable with an herbal extract than with polypharmacy.

BCBCS sent me this brochure and it says that watery eyes is a symptom of migraine. If I have a migraine, and I take a Claritin, my eyes still water all day.
