I ended up with Callaway XR OS with graphite shafts, and 1" extra on the length, plus a couple of Mack Daddy wedges (52 and 60). This was my second fitting session and I hit probably 200 balls just today. In addition to the Callaways I hit Titleists, Cobras, Mizunos and others. Given how poorly I was hitting various drivers, I decided to hold off on that until I pick up the irons in a few days.

It was interesting to see that the clubhead speed on the new irons was consistently 5-7 mph faster than with my old irons, purchased during Clinton I.

That 1" extra can make all the difference.

Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

            • Graphite sharts are good for old guys. Lower swing weight of the mass helps to get that club through faster.

I've got a set of +1" graphites in the garage somewhere.

Sorry. I've heard there are some products that can help with that.

                    • I know this is the play golf thread. Do we have a generic pro golf non-major thread?

Did anyone watch the Canadian Open yesterday? A guy needed a sand save on the 18th to tie and force a playoff. Pretty easy shot, lot of green to work with. Looked like about a 70% type sand save for a pro. He hits it hot off the face and it flies way over the green into the water. Ouch. He was so upset. I said, the poor guy looks like he's going to cry. And then he started wiping tears off his face. Hard to watch. Makes me feel a little bit better about my shitty golf game when I see that kind of stuff, though.

I saw it. It was especially rough, considering that would have been his first victory on Tour.

No. Some American journeyman who had put in a lot of years on the lower tours to get to the big stage. It was a difference of somewhere between $300 and 500k in the paycheck department, but it was also a chance to play in the PGA this week and the Masters next year, not to mention lock down a 2-year exemption on the tour. Hopefully he bounces back the way Kyle Stanley did a couple years ago when he tripled the final hole to lose by a stroke.

Apparently there is some controversy brewing over this. The bunker was severely low on sand, only about 1 inch deep, when the tour requirement is 4 to 5 inches. Wheatcroft's club bounced off the hard surface and into the ball.

Wheatcroft has a bit of a sense of humor about it though.

Interesting. I didn't know there were rules about sand requirements. When they showed the replay, I thought it looked like a pretty hard bunker. Very much like a Vegas municipal-course bunker in the summer. His club hit well behind the ball and the blade bounced into the ball. Anyone who has golfed in crappy bunkers has done that, though once you know that's how the bunker will respond, you can play for it.
