OK, so Monday I hopped on the scale at the gym and weighed in at 139.75. Today, after three days of restricting myself to a 2500 calorie diet I hopped onto the same scale, at the same time of day wearing the same thing. I weighed 135.75. Of course, I am thrilled, but what does it really mean? It would be impossible for me to have cut out 14,000 calories in three days.

question about weight loss
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

I doubt it. But I think a pound or two is within reason. The rest I'd attribute to water.Originally posted by marsupial View PostOK, so Monday I hopped on the scale at the gym and weighed in at 139.75. It means you're losing weight.Originally posted by marsupial View PostOK, so Monday I hopped on the scale at the gym and weighed in at 139.75. It could be that you really lost four pounds in three days.
It could also be that you lost two pounds and that your stomach, bladder, and lower intestines were all empty the second time. And maybe you had just nursed, too. Or that you hadn't hydrated well the second workout. Or I could be crazy.
But two pounds or four, that's a significant loss in three days and means you're headed the right direction.

Sorry, I re-read my post and I didn't mean it to come across like it reads. Congratulations. I do think it is very possible. Because I am hefty, to maintain my current weight I'd have to consume 4,000+ calories and be inactive. Now that I am exercising daily and consuming about 1,800 calories, I am burning about 3,500 calories daily. And so far that has been reflected on the scale."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

Babs is right. Your weight can easily fluctuate a few pounds based on water retention, etc. Happens to me all the time.
Back when I was wrestling in high school I monitored my weight carefully and could predict my daily fluctuations quite accurately. For example, our weigh-ins were always in the morning so I knew that just by sleeping at night, I would consistently lose 1.5 lbs. Since your weight fluctuates during the day, you may want to predict a consistent time to weigh yourself (right before bed, first thing in the morning, etc.)"There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

yeah, but she just said it was the same time of day, on the same scale, in the same clothes.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostSince your weight fluctuates during the day, you may want to predict a consistent time to weigh yourself (right before bed, first thing in the morning, etc.)

I lose up to four pounds from working out. Most of that is water weight.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostBabs is right. Your weight can easily fluctuate a few pounds based on water retention, etc. Happens to me all the time.

I've actually been weighing myself at least twice a day during my current weight loss deal in order to get a correct feel on my body's natural fluctuations. I am at my lightest, not surprisingly, right after an intense three hours of basketball or football or maybe even a run, especially if said exercise is early in the morning.Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

Well, at least 8 ounces of the differences can account for the fact that I drank only a cup of juice instead of a full glass like I did on Monday. I may have been more dehydrated when I woke up this morning than I was on Monday morning. I still nurse at night so I am usually pretty parched when I wake up.
Still, it's my lowest weigh in since giving birth--even lower than the time I weighed in after three days of the stomach flu. What's to explain? No way. I never weigh myself after a workout. My clothes are soaked by then. I'd weigh more for sure.Originally posted by nikuman View PostI lose up to four pounds from working out. Most of that is water weight.

well, I'm happy for you. I gave birth twice in less than two years, so I've been there. There's that point when you think the baby weight is never going away, but then three pounds at a time you start getting yourself back. You're already on your way.Originally posted by marsupial View PostWell, at least 8 ounces of the differences can account for the fact that I drank only a cup of juice instead of a full glass like I did on Monday. I have seen pictures of you and I don't believe that you ever had weight, post-partum or otherwise, to lose. But thank you for the support and well wishes. I appreciate it.Originally posted by Babs View Postwell, I'm happy for you. I gave birth twice in less than two years, so I've been there. mneyh. I was afraid you would say that, but keep in mind I'm already seven years past weaning my last one. Once upon a time, I had baby weight, too. (I'd post photos to prove my point, but after yesterday I'm rather hesitant to post any pics ever again -- there's no telling whom Seattle might mistake me for).Originally posted by marsupial View PostI have seen pictures of you and I don't believe that you ever had weight, post-partum or otherwise, to lose.
