Taekwondave, would you mind elaborating on what tanning does for your immune system? I am very interested in your thoughts on the matter.

I hope you haven't been scared off by all the silly doubters.

While I don't have the science background of Taekwondave, I am guessing it is all about vitamin D absorption! Since he does not eat dairy he needs to get that Vit D from somewhere!

This thread and advice are timely, especially given that I woke up todya with a sore throat and achy muscles. I think I'm going to hit Dark Tan on the way home.

And if anyone needs evidence of the tanning thing, just think for a minute.....when is flu season? That's right, during the darkest and coldest time of the year.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Ooh that seems plausible. I can't wait to find out. Come on TKD! The suspense!

It seems quite obvous to me: When you look good, you feel good.

You need to become a student of Utestar's avatars.

More evidence in support of tanning: most Hawaiians I know have never had the flu. Hawaiians are tan and also spend a lot of time having fun in the sun. And you can't have fun if you have the flu. Ergo, tanning probably does help combat the flu. Aloha, flu! And mahalo, tanning.

or maybe it's the ukes. Perhaps ukeleles have some kind of ancient immunizing properties.

ukulele music often makes people throw up or puts them to sleep, which would also seem to support taekwondave's other flu home remedies.

Actually, Im only kidding. I love the uke.

This is one of my fave all time uke tunes, "Surf" by the Ka'au Crater Boys. The best song to get pumped for surfing. Im getting amped up for April! If you like the uke, check out the KCB. Their disc "Valley Style" is great.

My personal goal is to surf every break listed in this song. So far, only have managed to surf a couple of them. that will change soon.

                          Nice.

My daughter is quite good on the uke. Her favorite tune for the uke is the I'm Yours tune that that cute Japanese kid does so well. She also likes to play You Shook Me All Night Long. I have mixed feelings about that one.

What I'm getting from this thread, in short, is DDD likely doesn't get the flu shot because his wife & kids do. So, those of us who get the flu shots are the suckers. We just need to convince everyone else to (and take our occasional turn when around <6-month-olds).

                              Back to the thread...

Anecdotally, I think they got the right strains this year. Not very scientific, but every diagnosis I've made this year didn't have the vaccine. I've made the diagnosis about 20 times this week alone.

As a side, I was curious how long we should vaccinate. CDC recommends vaccination throughout the season until the prevalence decreases. So, if you are still unvaccinated and want to get it, talk with your doctor.

A "Vegan" in quotes can actually eat meat as well. That is the one that I signed up to be instead of the other vegans.

SO TRUE!! My body is a well oiled, well tanned and well regular machine. Through a combination of using the stair master, daily laxatives, 2 hours a day of tanning and tight form fitting clothes - the flu stays away from me. If I feel it is coming on...I simply stare at my beautiful self in the mirror and demand that the flu leaves my body. So far so good.
