I don't want to argue with you, just setting the record straight. You don't seem to have ever done cross fit,so why speak as if you ar some sort of expert? Unless your wife is disabled, she can do an overhead squat. I've never met anyone not able to do it. Old, young, female, fat. It's not the chore you pretend. Have you ever watched the biggest loser? Every morbidly obese person on that show does air squats.

I thought this was funny:
I found out that Crossfit is a lot like reverse fight club. Because the first rule of Crossfit is to never shut the fuck up about Crossfit.

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

What is the appeal of Crossfit? I say this knowing my son likes it. The people appear fit, but you do it all in a gym? No outside participation?Originally posted by BigPiney View PostI went down to the local crossfit gym for the first time ever today. I went at lunch with my friend who has a key and was going to work out.
I hopped on the rings and did 3 muscle ups. I feel proud."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

I can see the appeal of it; you can get cut doing it and it seems like a competitive, supportive environment.Originally posted by Topper View PostWhat is the appeal of Crossfit? I like to watch the women in the competition do muscle ups on TV at the gym. Pretty motivating.
I did think though, that the Crossfit competitions, with its standard sized and weighted sandbags and barrels etc. are starting to look a lot like what crossfit is against. The whole point of crossfit is to use your own items, and recycle or repurpose things like tires etc in your workout regime. Now crossfit is issuing standard sized equipment, no?

Odd. if that were true you would think they would like it, since it'd be so good for business. But it's not likely true. too bad for them that crossFit is probably a better physical therapy program than going to the rehab center. At least that has been my experience with my back and tendonitis problems.Originally posted by USUC View PostI work at a physical rehab department. I agree, I don't care for corporate crossfit, and they will sue anything that looks at them wrong. But the link didn't say much about injury rates. And the sentence they were suing over didn't make any real claims about injuries.Originally posted by ewth8tr View Post
People are weird about injury perceptions. LIke with Paul George getting injured at NBA basketball practice. The talk is that this will lead to teams preventing players from participation. But, I fail to see how playing games for team USA is more dangerous than playing pickup ball, which they will be doing instead.
I haven't done crossfit for almost 2 years. I've gained 40 pounds and am out of shape. But I just started going back and no problem. No injury, no real risk of injury as far as I can tell. Contrarily, my wrist had been painful for months. Tendinitis. Doing crossfit has led to it going away.
It would be interest groups to hear people who have actually done it say why they think it is dangerous. I know of at least one such outspoken person. But the typical concerns are about over doing it, which I just haven't seen.Last edited by Jacob; 08-02-2014, 09:33 PM.

Never mind the fact that an additional study, published online the same month by the Journal, found "Injury rates with CrossFit training are similar to that reported in the literature for sports such as Olympic weight-lifting, power-lifting and gymnastics and lower than competitive contact sports such as rugby union and rugby league.""I don't mind giving the church 10% of my earnings, but 50% of my weekend mornings? LOL, that's like saying ERCougar likes car accidents because its good for business. Physicians aren't typically psychopaths. As for whether or not their views on Crossfit are true or not, I'm not trained in medicine or physical therapy so I can't say. I am glad that it has worked for your back though.
