Plyo tomorrow. That one kicked my ass last week. That and the Yoga are my least favorite.
The first 45 minutes of Yoga is really tough the last 45 is mostly stretching not to bad.

Every 7-10 days what really helps me is I do a session of X-stretch. Basically its 50 minutes of stretching, not very much fun but I feel so much better afterwards.

Yoga is my absolute favorite. That stuff is amazing, and my flexibility afterwards is insane. Before I start, I'm able to touch my toes. After I'm done, I can grab the bottom of my feet and even a bit more.

I have to start up p90x again but I won't have the time until next January. I've decided I'm not ever running an early fall marathon again (Houston is just too damn hot to train in) so I might do that instead.

          • Hey you P90x-ers, do you use dumbbells or resistance bands? I've been considering starting P90x, but it turns out dumbbells are not cheap. But resistance bands seem kinda cheap.

If you use dumbbells, what range of weights do you use?

Thrift stores are often a great place to find dumbbells for less. Also, moving sales! People unload that stuff when they have to pay by the pound to move it.

I got a set of the Ironman brand adjustable weight dumbbells at Costco. Costco usually has something, in my neck of the woods. They are reasonable quality, easy to use, great weight range, and ran about $199 IIRC (which is cheap for good adjustable weight dumbbells).

Great job Waup! Just think of what you could have done without the pie! Homemade blueberry pie is about 460 calories a slice! But it tastes so good!

I am using the bands right now because I dont have any dumbells. You just have to do more reps with the bands.

I hate garage sales. I always feel like if I stop my car and get out I need to buy something. Plus, you have to get up way early to get there and get the good stuff. But I recognize that what you say is true.

I tried good will last week, but all they had for sporting goods were 200 random golf clubs from the 70s and an Ab Lounge Pro.

Niku, that does sound (relatively) cheap for weights. But I still don't want to pay $200 for weights.

I tried it once with resistance bands and didn't like it. My son also had some dumbbells with adjustable weights (you know, like regular free weights, I don't know what they are called), but it is a pain in the neck to take things on and off during a workout, so I went and bought some. All I have is:

5 pounds (My wife already had these. I only use them for one thing, I swear)
                          12 pounds
18.5 pounds (my son's weights, fully loaded)
                          25 pounds

This works pretty well for me. There are a couple of things where I would like heavier weights (heavy pants, lawnmowers, maybe one or two more), but I just do a few more reps. My arms aren't that strong, so the 25s are good enough for me to do curls with, and to get some 35s or 40s would be too much money for me to spend. Plus, we don't have a basement, so I don't think my wife is thrilled with the dumbbells we already have sitting around.

Not enough variation in that set, IMO. As others have said, I'll range through several different weight ranges in a workout depending on the exercise. The set I bought is fast enough to change that I usually don't even have to pause the workout.

My wife says she wants to P90x it too (although I can't see it happening), but if she does, that means I'll need an extra set of weights! Or at least overlapping weights. Ugh. It seems like anything over 12 pounds gets expensive quick. I'll bet it would cost me $200 just to get the ones you have.

Btw, what's the major cost involved here? Is steel (or whatever they're made of) that expensive?
