I got it. Ordered it on Saturday and it came today (wtf, that was fast). I tried it out this evening and drove a couple of screws into scrap to see how it worked. I don't know how I ever got along with out this thing. It's pretty sweet.

      Hello drill/driver fans.

Home Depot has three deals on Drills/Impact Drivers today. One each from Makita, DeWalt and Milwaukee. Each for $99. I can't really make sense of which is best, or if any of them are any good. Can anyone enlighten me? TIA.

Edit: It appears that the Milwaukee is just a drill. There are some deals for just 18V drills from those three brands as well.

The Makita is 12v and the Dewalt is 18v. It depends on your needs and size projects you plan on. If I read the ad right, the Dewalt is 100 ea for the drill and driver. The Makita is 99 for the combo. That is a screaming deal. I have both and love the Makita set. I use it for virtually every project. A must have for any homeowner and DIYer.

So I should do the makita then? I mean, assuming I've never going to be more than a DIYer (if I'm ever that).

For the combo set yes, $100 no brainer. 12v is fine for around the house. Pull the trigger.

Over the past 20 years, I've had 3 drills. The first was a Makita 9V. I loved it as my first cordless tool, but when the battery died, no replacement battery was available as a discontinued item. My second drill was a Makita 12V. Still have it, and use it for smaller jobs. Once I started doing some bigger jobs, I found that the 12V ran out of juice too fast, and didn't have enough power, so I bought a corded Makita. The difference is like going from a Prius to a Ferrari. 110V's of never ending power is wonderful. Nowadays I probably use the corded 80% of the time. I recommend skipping the cordless, and getting a real tool.
