This graphic has a very nice Mad Men feel to it with all of these stances with suave, attitude, and style. Just like every LDS ward I've ever attended. Nailed it.I told him he was a goddamn Nazi Stormtrooper.

I have seen language to that effect somewhere, but I don't know where. It was in an official church publication. I'll hunt around. Sounds like a case for:Originally posted by Sullyute View PostSo then how is this any different from the vast majority of religions where 99% of the members are not compensated but 1% is? We simply have the compensation higher up the ladder instead on lower on the rungs than most churches.

This is making the rounds on other forums, but it appears that Mission Presidents (according to the Mission Presidents handbook) get some pretty hefty reimbursements from the church while serving. So maybe PAC may want to reconsider sending in his letter indicating that he is available to serve as an MP.
"While you are serving as mission president , the Church reimburses the necessary living expenses for you, your wife, and your dependant children."
Reimbursable living expenses include:
1. "food, clothing, household supplies, family activities, dry cleaning, personal long-distance call to family, and modest gifts."
2. "Medical expenes - including dental and eye care, but not orthodontics."
3. "Support for children serving full-time missions"
4. "One round trip for each unmarried child under age 26 to visit you in the mission field"
5. "Elementary and secondary school expenses for tuition, fees, books and materials. Reasonable expenses for extracurriclar activities and for music or dance lessons."
6. "Undergraduate tution to an accrediated college or university... Tuiton is waived at Church owned schools."
7. "One Part-time housekeeper-cook"
8. "The Church provides one mission automobile assigned exclusively to the mission president. ...your wife may use any availalbe mission vehicle for shoping, taking children to school, or other needs."
9. "Cost of personal health and life insurance premiums is reimbursed to you"
There are some other incidental items but it doesn't seem too unreasonable. However it is not necessarily the monetary sacrifice that other elderly couples make to serve as general missionaries."Friendship is the grand fundamental principle of Mormonism" - Joseph Smith Jr.

The letter went in years ago, so that ship has sailed. And despite the generous benefits, each MP I have known has said he had to dip into personal savings during his three years--a net loss overall. I much prefer visiting them to being one of them.Originally posted by Sullyute View Post...So maybe PAC may want to reconsider sending in his letter indicating that he is available to serve as an MP...

My dad would have made 6 figures a year more than the monetary value of the above had he not been called.Originally posted by Sullyute View PostThis is making the rounds on other forums, but it appears that Mission Presidents (according to the Mission Presidents handbook) get some pretty hefty reimbursements from the church while serving. so you're saying the church has to put together such a good package in order to entice the top talent?Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostMy dad would have made 6 figures a year more than the monetary value of the above had he not been called.Dio perdona tante cose per un’opera di misericordia

My parents definitely dipped into their savings quite a bit during their mission. Also, they did not seek full reimbursement for a lot of the things that were on that list, because they felt that they could afford certain things they should not ask for reimbursement.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostMy dad would have made 6 figures a year more than the monetary value of the above had he not been called.
