So I'm contemplating donating more to the Cougar Club and paying less tithing. I'm not sure if there is anything wrong with this, since the Cougar Club is a direct extension of the LDS Church. It would be my way of making sure my money is going to a worthy cause instead of paying for an excessively fancy chandelier for a temple. Anyone have thoughts about this alternative approach to tithing?

This strategy allows me to allocate my tithing as I see fit. It would be like you Republican folks being able to pay taxes but not allow it to be spent on welfare or medicare.Originally posted by il Padrino Ute View PostWhy not just not pay tithing? That which may be asserted without evidence may be dismissed without evidence. -C. If I could, I wouldn't pay taxes. But I suppose I would allocate where my money should go if it was my choice.Originally posted by SoonerCoug View PostIf you could, would you do it?"Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." - Winston Churchill

Right, that's all I'm saying. I guess in theory I could just not pay tithing, but I think that might make God upset. So I figure I'll pay it, but just allocate it as I see fit.Originally posted by il Padrino Ute View PostIf I could, I wouldn't pay taxes. If I thought you weren't trolling, I'd say you were being awfully generous with somebody else's money.Originally posted by SoonerCoug View PostRight, that's all I'm saying. I'm not trolling. I'm dead serious. Actually he doesn't. God wants me to pay tithing the old-fashioned way and not to think outside the box. God gave us the ability to make decisions so that we would defer to very kind and accomplished elderly men in suits.Originally posted by falafel View PostRight, because God appreciates your decision-making abilities.

If a man can "rob God" through failure to pay an adequate tithing, that suggests that the money was not yours to begin with. If it isn't yours, neither is the right to decide how it is spent.Originally posted by SoonerCoug View PostI'm not trolling. I'm dead serious. But what does this have to do with someone else's money?
You asked for thoughts to your alternative approach to paying tithing, and my thought is that this would not be a full and honest tithe.Last edited by All-American; 09-17-2009, 06:07 PM.τὸν ἥλιον ἀνατέλλοντα πλείονες ἢ δυόμενον προσκυνοῦσιν

I, too, imagined you were mostly joking. Assuming you're not, I'll just point out that if you're worried enough about not paying tithing, how then can you not be worried that God might not approve of your decision to support "His" football team over items of more pressing importance?Originally posted by SoonerCoug View PostActually he doesn't.
