So you paid him to take A girl out and assumed they would go on a group date ? How is that encouraging ?

Just call the priest up and tell him that is money for pizza/movies/whatever that you would like him to still ask the girl and make it a group date.

    Problem solved.

EDIT: Better yet, Text him your request

All it takes is one person who knows Art to find a link and start forwarding it. Smoking gun.

I agree... that is why I'm going to be honest with her about the whole thing. I'm not nearly as concerned about her thinking her bishop is a dork as I am her thinking he is being deceitful.

I guess the bright side of all this is she will have something to post in this thread when she joins CUF in the future. http://cougaruteforum.com/showpost.p...47&postcount=1

Yeah Art, I think this was a bad idea. Probably good intentions, but bad idea.

But you seem to have recognized that already.

I'm still waiting for your stake president to interview me so I can be your 3rd counselor. From your postings here, it sounds like your counselors aren't a good sounding board for you.

I know, I just got this funny image of the youth in AV's ward sitting around saying "hey, have you heard the latest rumor from CUF?"

I forgot to update this story:

I did talk to the laurel and told her that I had given the boy some some money and told him to ask her out. She responded with "Oh good, I hate when I go on a date and they make me order off the dollar menu". They went to a movie and to Applebees with some other kids and had a good time (not so good that either of them has had to come and talk to me...yet).

They aren't dating exclusively but seem to like hanging out with another and have done several group things together. This may have all happened without my intervention, but in retrospect, I don't regret doing "the payoff"

Last night I gave him $40 to take out a laurel who just moved into the ward. She is cute, but kind of quiet and is obviously quite interested in the young man.

My thought is it will help her get to know him better and likely some other LDS kids from other wards- assuming they go on some sort of group date. My wife is worried the boy will tell his friends and eventually she will find out and feel like a charity case. He is a very good kid and seemed more than willing to take me up on my offer- as I said she is quite cute.

I realize the potential this has to turn into a stupid 80's movies plot. Did I do a dumb thing or not?

                      Additional information:
He would have done it for free. I asked him if we would do it, when he responded yes I then gave him the money. He comes from a poor family. His dad was out of work for 6 months. He works during the summer but since football started up again, he isn't working and I doubt has much spending money.
You gave him money to pay for the date, not to take her out. There is a key difference. His willingness to take her out without the money is the key.

IMHO we have too many young women who already think that.
                        Fascinating.

I'm not sure it's such a bad idea. I've seen enough movies to know how this is going to end. After her confidence is bumped, she's going to undo the pony tail, stop wearing the glasses, get a new wardrobe, and become the most desirable girl in school. What could be better?

As is, apparently, her willingness to go out with him without the money.
