bball3212, you have to ease into these things on this board. No jumping from the "high dive" until you've been around a while. Lurk here for a while and you will see.Originally posted by bball3212 View PostSo, is obedience important? Are the mission rules only important when we think they are? I think we all know the purpose of the stupid rules is to prevent stupid missionaries from doing stupid things that harm the church image. I know numerous elders in my mission who did just stupid things that caused people to not like the church, break away, not listen to missionaries, etc. It is a sad thing when that happens.Originally posted by Art Vandelay View PostInteresting this has almost turned into the MTC rite of passage many missionaries participate in "top that sin". Where each Elder tells stories (likely in many cases tall tales) of his younger wilder days.
It isn't my place to say if breaking a mission rule is equivalent to sinning or not, but this thread definitely has a deja vu feel.
That being said, I remember a companion who told on us for playing monopoly a little past bedtime, even though we was playing. And then the fact he would yell at me for anything including drinking coke, chewing gum, etc. Man I am glad I had an early transfer!

I have two busted stories. One is from my time in the LTM. It seems a couple of elders snuck down to go to football game and ended up on the cover of the Church News. It was a very favorable article, but they weren't suppose to be there. We all got lectured on the proper activities on P-Day. The funny thing is that the next week they let us all attend the UTEP game. (This is way before the stadium expansion)
The other one is when we were living in Germany, Ludwig's Neuschwanstein Castle could not be reached by missionaries "legally". It was in the Germany South mission, but the only road to get there went into Austria. Anyway while we were walking up the hill to the castle we see these missionaries coming down. We just said Hi, Elders and continued on, but they went white as there shirts so I don't think they had permission.Last edited by happyone; 08-28-2009, 07:30 AM.

One night at about 10:30 I was watching "The Godsmakers" with some Swedish scripture fiend, his companion and a sister companionship. My comp was a good kid from Meridian, ID as well as a ZL, the Swedish scripture rock star was also a ZL. He was in a back room of the apartment reading his scriptures as the whole thing made him real uncomfortable. The experience was really informative as the Swedish elder was stopping the movie to break down inconsistencies and whatnot, and then in walks the APs. It was quite comical but the zone experienced a great deal of transfers the next transfer with much of the leadership being "released."Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

Seems like this thread has turned into a mission rules confession of sorts. Here's mine:
In the MTC, me and another elder in our district decided that the Large Group Meeting the night before we left wasn't for us. We changed into our Pday clothes, hopped the fence, and headed down onto BYU campus. We didn't really have any plans, just get something to eat and walk around.
We came across some basketball courts near some student housing, so we played a couple of games with the guys there. As we were walking west off campus, a care full of 4 BYU "tough guys" (think Matt Clayton photography) looking to cause some trouble stopped and started hastling us. Normally the guy I was with and I would have held our own, but we were pretty timid knowing that we weren't where we were supposed to be. We finally told them we were from the MTC, and they changed from tough guys to friendly, and asked us what missions we were going to, etc.
We finally got a burger at Wendy's, then headed back. As we tried to find a way to get back over the fence into the MTC without getting caught, we ran into another elder that had a little rendezvous with his girlfriend on the outside of the fence in the bushes. Then the MTC "security" caught us and we had to talk to our branch president, who tried to lay a huge guilt trip on us.
The worst part was the next 12 hours, wondering if our parents would be told of our adventure, and if they would bring it up at the airport when we left.Last edited by chrisrenrut; 08-28-2009, 08:02 AM.
