It's probably time to update those terms. In some form or another, a few of them are about a hundred years old. My wife had an Aha! moment last night when I told her that the M.I.A. in Mia-Maids refers to Mutual Improvement Association.

Without scouts, there’s no point in going camping on an overnighter every month.

Yeah. I don't know that any leader is going to complain about that, but I know some boys that have gotten used to going regularly are going to be disappointed with that change and may push for them when planning. My current boys don't seem as keen but my group 2 years ago wouldn't let us miss a month.

There was a little more detail in a letter sent to adults with YMYW callings.

There is supposed to be 1 adviser called for each quorum and then "specialists" as needed so that there are at least 2 leaders for each class and activity. For most groups this means that things don't change much, but we have 2 deacons quorums in our ward, so if we are following the new guidelines, we will pick up another adviser.

This may mean that the YM will follow a similar pattern to what the YW do currently where you have a person or group specifically call to organize camps.

With equal budgets, I have a hard time seeing the deacons being able to do overnighters every month like they did with Scouts. I'm guessing it will likely be at most a winter overnighter and a summer camp. If the group is really into camping, they could possibly do lots of hiking overnighters where the boys bring all their own supplies. FTR, I'm just fine not going on as many overnighters.

It will be interesting to see what the budgets look like in the coming years. Hopefully with no more scout registration fees, budgets go up a lot for the YW and don't go down too much for the YM. The FSY conferences are the biggest unknown for the budget. They are probably going to be pricey to run.
