    Sex and the Mormon Woman

I have a buddy who has his PhD in psychology with his main clinical focus being on marital issues. He is the process of gathering information for a paper he wants to publish. The question he is trying to answer is do virginal brides show a decreased sexual desire after marriage than do those who have sex prior to marriage? A large number of his research is done with LDS and evangelical Christians.

The interesting part as he is doing the research is he believes it doesn't have as much to do with the woman as it does with his man. He is finding a high correlation when the man is a pre-matrimony virgin to a woman's lack of interest in sex. His working theory is that virginal males didn't have the purely sexual relationships in their teens or early 20's most American men did, thus they aren't that good at sex. He believes the woman's interest is directly correlated to how well her lover can satisfy her needs. If she is married to Quick Draw McGraw or someone who expects her to act and get into positions like a porn actress she quickly tires of the effort involved in having sex.

The sad irony is he has found, what most of us probably have already discovered ourselves, the more a couple has sex, the better both get at knowing one another's needs and the more enjoyable it is for both. Thus repetition generally leads to improvement, which leads to more sex.

If and when he publishes I will link to his study.

    This sounds incredibly simplistic.

Yes that was the way condensed version, or at least the part I can recall. He is hoping to get published in one of the larger psychology journals, it will obviously be much more detailed.

I just found his theory interesting since a large portion of his subjects are LDS (I guess finding virginal brides isn't the easiest thing in the United States).

Hey, I was nice to him in that other thread. kinda.

I'm actually curious what kind of feedback he gets. Here's a board 90% male. A public service announcement: Hey guys, if your wives are frigid, guess what: YOU SUCK.

                lol.

The guy says he's scared to post here, he posts something about an academic paper, and you insult him for being "simplistic." Way to go. We're not to a place yet where we can afford to burn constituents. Jefe has maybe 100x the circulation.

Is this you talking or are you paraphrasing Art's friend's hypothesis?

I find it curious that while he thinks lack of sexual experience and education is a factor in post-marital sexual dysfunction, he focuses on the man as the primary problem. The implication seems so...I don't know...Victorian: The man should go gain experience on the Continent so he'll be prepared to initiate his bride on their wedding night.

He didn't bring any offerings to my worship-me thread. I can hardly be held responsible for what transpires from here on out.
