As far as calling and election made sure goes, I thought that was when God or Jesus showed up to you and by seeing them, you knew you had progressed to the point where your salvation was guaranteed, so to speak.
I've got family that live right off Darnestown Road in MD. I'll go on a trek out to rural Darnestown next time I'm there and track him down.

Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Yes, there most certainly is a "second endowment" that is given to selected individuals. (Sorry IJR, I missed your first thread). They are fairly rare and the frequency has varied up and down over time. Occasionally there is a push to make them more common, but it depends on the personality of the current prophet I suppose.

If you are curious, I highly recommend this book:

He devotes at least one chapter to a history of the practice. Well-researched and balanced.

I was very fortunate to receive my second endowment when I turned 30. It's nice knowing no matter what I do or don't do, I'm in.

Sounds like a good way to hedge your bets.

One of my mission companions asked our president if he had his calling and election made sure. LOL.

From there the conversation went something like this:

"Where did you read about that?"

            "Mormon Doctrine"

"What books are we allowed to read in this mission?"

"Only those approved by the mission."

"Is Mormon doctrine one of those"

            "No."

"Elder, if you read apostate books, you will be an apostate."
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.
