  • It's OK to resign.

I just want you to all know that it's easy to resign your membership in the LDS Church.

All you have to do is email your bishop. If your bishop is responsible, you'll recieve your letter confirming your resignation within a few days.

Good people like SeattleUte should just go ahead and take care of this so their name is no longer in any way associated with the Church's discriminatory policies. It's also a much deserved vote of no confidence for the current leadership.

I just emailed my bishop. He said: "I need time. I don't know how to do this."

      I said: "Figure it out."

      Done.

Mom was a little upset but felt better once I told her that Dad could re-baptize me once the church starts treating gays like normal people.

There was a lawyer in some news story that said he is helping 1,000 people leave the church. You should go tell him your secrets. Maybe he could help even more.

Doesn't sound like its done to me. Sounds like the bishop is stalling. Come back and let us know when it's really done.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

            That makes no sense.
            Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

An answer to prayers! I thought the Church was like the Hotel California.

All I'm saying is that ex-Mormons have been spreading nasty, false rumors about the Church making it difficult for people to resign.

                Not so.

The Church makes it very, very easy to resign.

Wrong. It doesn't work like that, unless your bish just typed something up to keep you from bugging him.

I asked to resign on November 8th. I received a letter from Salt Lake City today--dated November 9th.

Perhaps the procedure has changed since you were a bishop?

A friend of mine in Utah County resigned last Thursday and received his letter on Saturday.

It appears to be fully automated now--probably necessitated by having such a high volume of resignations.

To be fair, I have not bugged my bishop at all. But he has sent people to my home repeatedly. By contrast, I have no idea where he lives and don't care to know.

                    In conclusion:
                    1) There should be no difficultly in resigning unless local leaders are obstructionist.
                    2) The notion that an attorney is necessary is ludicrous.
                    3) The notion that a person needs to fight to resign is probably based on rumor, prior history, or extreme cases.

You may have resigned, but you haven't walked away. You're conscience is seeking validation by enlisting others till your conflict is o'er.

Um, no. Not seeking validation. Just thought SeattleUte might appreciate this information.

The very thought of SeattleUte needing "how to" advice and appreciating the information you provided - makes reason stare. Truth is reason; truth eternal tells me SU doesn't really care.

There are lots of rumors on the internet about it being difficult to resign from the Mormon Church.

Most of these rumors are spread by ex-Mormons.

I'm making it clear that those rumors are false.
