  • Apostle run ins

A guy in my MTC district was obsessed with the church bodyguards disappointed we missed Neal A. Maxwell because he didn,t get to see his bodyguards. I don,t know what extend the whole twelve get protection, but I am sure many live in typical neighborhoods and still drive there own cars.

One guy works in Sun Valley and sees many famous people. So when you work in restaurant go do your work don,t worry about who is ther. Running into friend is one thing. So many famous people there whoop te doo anyway. But he went to Mexican restaurant and Dallin H. Oaks was there. Wife whispered I think that's him. Got phone out for pic and it was him. He came to relatives reception while I was on mission and talked to some family members.

A few people may have run into apostles at games and the like. For grandsons Jigh School games just sitting there minding there business. I am sure people come up to them all the time in restaurants. Or do temple sessions with them. I haven,t ran into any Apostles where I didn,t expect them. For securitynand privacy hard to for 1st Presidency now. Who has ran into them? And what extend is there security when you do.

MJ and I passed by Elder Faust in the SLc temple. As we passed, she patted him on the back and said "Hi Elder James". She's still embarrassed by it.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. I saw LTP at the airport in SLC a couple of Thanksgiving weekends ago, he was clearly upset his ride wasn't there but I chickened out on offering him a lift. I sure hope that one doesn't come back to bite me in the backside come judgement day.

Saw David B. Haight alone staring out the window of the food court in Crossroads Mall my freshman year. When we went up to talk to him he said he was waiting for his ride. He seemed genuinely happy that we approached him and talked with us for a while.

We noticed Elder Holland several rows behind us sitting in an empty section in the Marriott Center during a Saturday afternoon basketball game. My then-girlfriend asked if I was going to go talk to him. I said "the guy is probably down here for a million boring meetings and had a break so he decided to pop in and watch some basketball to feel normal for a few minutes. I'm going to let him have that moment." Five minutes later we noticed he had been surrounded by adoring students. A couple minutes after that he was gone, perhaps carried by the Spirit to another college basketball game.

Rode in an elevator with LTP once. He seems likes a very down to earth guy and joked around with my son.

I have chatted with Nelson a few times. Both times the subject was mainly my father: once when I was about five or so and the second time when I was much older.

Saw then-Elder Eyring rolling through the Target in Centerville in a polo and khakis. Gave him the head nod in passing and that was that. Also saw him and Elder Ballard in the old ZCMI Center mall. I worked in one of the attached towers (which I assume have been torn down now) so if I was going to get lunch or something in the mall I would see Seventies walking through with some frequency.

Passed by Richard Scott in temple square once. He was with his wife. I made nervous eye contact with him, he didn't notice and walked away. He was significantly shorter than I had imagined.

I can't say for certain due to the speed I was travelling, but I'm 80% sure I flipped off M. Russell Ballard when I was on a road trip through Utah in the Summer of '97. Some old dude in a Crown Vic was going 63 in the fast lane. When he finally switched lanes, I decided to tell the man he was #1 as we passed. I stuck out my hand and made brief eye contact before my arm retreating back into the car in record time/fashion.

Other than that, I saw Henry B. in the SLC Airport. We made eye contact. I think he saw the look of surprise on my face, because he turned his back and faced a wall while finishing his conversation and remained in that position until our baggage came out on the coveyor.

I almost ran over him when I turned a corner in the SLC Temple.

I was asked to ref a YM basketball game 2-3 years ago and Elder Anderson was there to watch his grandson play. The guy I was reffing with was worried that Elder A would KNOW if he made a bad call and was a mess the whole game.

A couple of weeks ago Elder Eyring drove past as I was walking to a wedding in the Bountiful Temple parking lot. He had a white shirt on, but no tie. Hmmmm.

Grape - neither had bodyguards with them.

My friend's brother worked security at Temple Square for a while. He decided to move on when he was told that he didn't fit the profile they were looking for as far as personal security, so he had no shot at that. Dude was 6'8" and around 300 lbs. They wanted someone who could be a little more inconspicuous.
