Well, I'll say it. Pres. Monson is going to die.

I have no more inclination to hear him speak one last time than I did to hear him speak 10 years ago. He's not going to give any new or insightful information, we all know that. I'll listen to him because he'll inspire me to continue to seek out and help the widows and less fortunate.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I feel like we did this with GBH for a few years before he died. After every conference the chatter seemed to be "that was almost like a farewell address...I wonder if he knows something we don't." And then he'd be there in October/April all over again.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

      • I would be too emotional for a T-Mo farewell so I think i will skip it altogether.

One of the huge negatives of the advent of HD technology is seeing general authorities up close during GenCon. In some cases, the speakers look like corpses because the makeup is caked on so thick (T-Mo tends to get Estee lauder overload when he speaks). Watching BKP is awkward and uncomfortable, as well.

As you've noted, everyone who speaks has a make-up person work on them before the session begins, with one exception: When he was first approached by a make-up artist, Elder Perry dismissed her, saying "Marines don't wear make-up, and I'm a Marine."

On an unrelated note, I just read a line by the 13th Century poet/theologian Rumi who wrote presciently about SoonerCoug and General Conference: “Come, come, whoever you are. Wanderer, worshiper, lover of leaving. It doesn't matter. Ours is not a caravan of despair. Come, even if you have broken your vows a thousand times. Come, yet again, come, come.”

I don't know how you come across lines from 13th century theologians, but I really like this quote.
One of the grandest benefits of the enlightenment was the realization that our moral sense must be based on the welfare of living individuals, not on their immortal souls. Honest and passionate folks can strongly disagree regarding spiritual matters, so it's imperative that we not allow such considerations to infringe on the real happiness of real people.

You forgot to mention which of your Q70 golfing partners told you this story.

I've read a book or two of his poems and observations, many of which are really good, if a bit touchy feely. I think I posted this a few years ago, but I used this Rumi quote in a Gospel Doctrine lesson on Paul's statement that we should "glory in tribulations":

This being human is a guest house.
                  Every morning a new arrival.

                  A joy, a depression, a meanness,
                  some momentary awareness

                  Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
                  who violently sweep your house
                  empty of furniture,
                  still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
                  for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
                  and invite them in.

                  Be grateful for whoever comes,
                  because each has been sent
                  as a guide from beyond.

While at BYU, I worked with a guy from the Canary Islands who was about to get married. He had decided to get circumcised stating some health issues which I don't remember. His circumcision appeared to hurt quite a bit. I did not inquire as to sexual pleasure either before or after the procedure.

Not ever really hearing much about penis cancer I decided to go to Wiki to find out about it and I think this provides a pretty good case to get cut. Count me in the group that doesn't want their penis amputated.

However in the developing world penile cancer is much more common. For instance, in Paraguay, Uruguay, Uganda and Brazil the incidence is 4.2, 4.4, 2.8 and 1.5–3.7 per 100,000, respectively.[1][7] In some South American countries, Africa, and Asia, this cancer type constitutes up to 10% of malignant diseases in men.[1] The lowest incidence is in Israeli Jews—0.1 per 100,000.

Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

                          • When I was a kid I had a horse that got penis cancer. He was not circumcised. See?

According to the PR specialist in one of our classes who told us we have to wear make up too, even he has come around.

Also: Is this your ward calling now? Were you released from everything else?
Also: Do you get any residuals for any albums you help record?
