But that's not a word for word quote. If you watch the talk on lds.org it cuts at this exact moment to Elder Uchtdorf, I tried it on my iPhone, iPad and Mac, all cut the subsequent part out where he stated there was no human death before the fall.
            Here you go:

I express my gratitude to the atonement and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. And acknowledge events in the divine plane of God that led up to and give meaning to the love Jesus offers us. In our increasingly secular society it is as uncommon as it is unfashionable to speak of Adam and Eve or the Garden of Eden or a fortunate fall into mortality. Nevertheless the simple truth is that we cannot fully comprehend the Atonement and Resurrection of Christ and we will not adequately appreciate the unique purpose of his birth or his death. In other words there's no way to truly celebrate Christmas or Easter without understanding that there was an actual Adam and Eve; who fell from an actual Eden with all the consequences that fall carried with it.

I do not know the details of what happened on this planet before that. But I do know these two were created under the divine hand of God, that for a time they lived alone in a paradisaical setting where there was neither human death nor future family. And that through a sequence of choices they transgressed a commandment of God which required that they leave their garden setting but which allowed them to have children before facing physical death. To add further sorrow and complexity to their circumstance their transgression had spiritual consequences as well cutting them off from the presence of God forever. Because we were then born into that fallen world and because we too would transgress the laws of God we also were sentenced to the same penalties that
Adam and Eve faced. What a plight, the entire human race in free fall. Every man woman and child physically tumbling to permanent death, spiritually plunging toward eternal anguish.
I'd imagine you'd hear similar things in any random HP group discussion trying to fit a literal fall with pop-science.

            • Why do you A&E doubters have to be so black and white. Of course there was a pre Adam & Eve time frame. Of course there was a Adam and Even time frame, and or course a post time frame.

Pre A&E is an evolutionary process. How many hundreds of millions of years did it take to transform from cell, to organism, to animal, to finally human who knows. But we do exist so we know that it did happen.

Adam & Even is a wonderful part of the evolutionary story. Transition from an animalistic sinless state to a conscientious state of self awareness wasn't easy, and how do you identify the transition from x to y. You set up a protocol of expected behaviour and when the behaviour is met you can confirm the transition. "We covered ourselves for we were naked." "Who told you that you were naked." That scene of self awareness and admission of contrary behaviour to the God's that cultivated the evolution is the fulfillment/verification of the transformation. It... has transformed into a Who, and God rejoices enough to provide a Savior to redeem his new creations from the "fall." The fall from nothingness to something wonderful. Did it take place with two real people at a real place and time. It had to... how could it not. Somebody had to be the first sentient beings during the crossover from x to y. So what if they had names, they had to be called something.

Post A&E - We are still evolving. We will continue to evolve for millions of years. If mankind stays on this same path for another 15,000 years, we're going to be more like the people 15,000 years ago that we'll be like the people 15,000 years into the future.

When you combine all of that into a trillion opportunities to dimensionally play out every conceivable variable of your life, then we can look over the fence and say, I'm becoming like God because I've evolved into an omnipotent being through living a concurrent trillion years of experienced condensed into 85 years of living.

Because Father Henry would never call it silly to believe in a literal Adam and Eve. Henry Eyring, as brilliant as he was, did not worship at the alter of science and recognized that we really know very little of the facts of this world, and he was perfectly okay with that.

                    • Religious freedom = freedom from criticism? Persecution complex runs deep.

                      Worst talk so far.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

After my post, I did some research and it turns out I actually know more about Father Henry than I do B. Apparently, B has poo poo'd his father's legacy of science far longer than his apostolic position.
