My sister and her husband are in Cambodia on a genealogy mission. What started as a fun thing to do when you turn 60, has turned into a test of endurance they never anticipated. They can't wait to come home, and put the nightmare behind them.

don't you have to don the nametag a first time for it to be considered "again"?

This poll should identify the respondents in each category so I can know who the slackers are. I'm big on that.

So far, based on posts, here is the slacker list:

    Cardiac
    Surfah

I loved my mission. But I'm never doing that again.

I know another guy that served a mission doing legal work for the church. Retired attorney. Really great guy.

Should that gig become available in a few years, I'm in. One (and only one) other possibility would be to join one of my good friends who may be serving as an MP or Area President. It'd be fun to hang out in the mission home and my friends would know better than to give me something distasteful. But it's essential that they serve Europe, Australia/New Zealand or Manhattan.
We had some friends called to serve in Paris. Their job was to help plan cool activities for the local YSA ward. Count me in on that one.

I know another couple that was called to Laie, Hawaii to be the official photographer for the PCC and BYUH. They had a blast.

A friend of mine's parents were called as service missionaries to the Polynesian Culteral Center. At the end of the mission, they wanted them to stay for another year, so they offered to pay for their apartment, and fly them home for a couple of weeks every 3 months. They accepted, but haven't bothered to use the fly-home option in the last 6 months.

An uncle and aunt just got back from being called as fleet and apartment coordinator and mission nurse in The Netherlands.

A couple that are neighbors were called to serve in the Ghana temple.

Another couple from our ward were called as financial auditors/advisors in the Urkraine.
I know the couple I mentioned above was trying to decide how long they wanted to go because if they committed to a certain term (I think 3 years?) the church was going to provide a stipend for their basic living expenses.

My son did a year of his service mission at the Bishop's Storehouse. Spent all day stocking shelves and handing out food to poor folks. There were several senior couples there managing the whole thing. That could be a nice gig.

I voted yes because my wife wants to. If it's like anything else, I'm sure she'll bug me until I say yes. I'd rather say yes to a mission than to getting a dog.
