  • Will you serve a Senior Mission for the LDS Church?

Since I still have nightmares about being back on my mission I can't imagine ever willingly signing up for another one.

I kinda think it might be fun. If you could choose your destination. Maybe put in a couple hours a day actually proselyting. The rest of the time be a tourist, learn a language, do cool local stuff. What are they gonna do, send you home?

A couple from my parents ward just started a mission in Paris where he's doing legal work. That doesn't sound bad.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I voted yes because my wife wants to. If it's like anything else, I'm sure she'll bug me until I say yes. I'd rather say yes to a mission than to getting a dog.
        Not that, sickos.

My son did a year of his service mission at the Bishop's Storehouse. Spent all day stocking shelves and handing out food to poor folks. There were several senior couples there managing the whole thing. That could be a nice gig.

A friend of mine's parents did something similar in NYC as PR for the church to the UN.

It seems like more and more elderly couples are not going to proselytize. Each of these anecdotal examples seem/seemed to really enjoy their time.

A friend of mine's parents were called as service missionaries to the Polynesian Culteral Center. At the end of the mission, they wanted them to stay for another year, so they offered to pay for their apartment, and fly them home for a couple of weeks every 3 months. They accepted, but haven't bothered to use the fly-home option in the last 6 months.

An uncle and aunt just got back from being called as fleet and apartment coordinator and mission nurse in The Netherlands.

A couple that are neighbors were called to serve in the Ghana temple.

Another couple from our ward were called as financial auditors/advisors in the Urkraine.

I know the couple I mentioned above was trying to decide how long they wanted to go because if they committed to a certain term (I think 3 years?) the church was going to provide a stipend for their basic living expenses.

A prominent BYU donor, after retiring as a partner at one of LA's biggest law firms. was called with his wife to serve in Hawaii. His assignment was to coach the BYU-Hawaii golf team and teach a business class.

Should that gig become available in a few years, I'm in. One (and only one) other possibility would be to join one of my good friends who may be serving as an MP or Area President. It'd be fun to hang out in the mission home and my friends would know better than to give me something distasteful. But it's essential that they serve Europe, Australia/New Zealand or Manhattan.

We had some friends called to serve in Paris. Their job was to help plan cool activities for the local YSA ward. Count me in on that one.

I know another couple that was called to Laie, Hawaii to be the official photographer for the PCC and BYUH. They had a blast.

                          .
So essentially this guy is paying the church to be an instructor as well as a coach? How long until the church annexes the entire Kirton McKonkie firm to the church legal mission?

I know another guy that served a mission doing legal work for the church. Retired attorney. Really great guy.

I loved my mission. But I'm never doing that again.
