I agree with you. The sad thing is though I know there are those out there saying they should be devastated and hateful. They should be in therapy and in the hands of the mental profession not some outdated belief system.

I feel bad for those people and again agree with you on how inspiring Cassity and the family are.

I agree and I've encouraged him to do the same.

While I would never belittle or question someone who reads the BOM with that attitude, I can understand why it can seem a bit self serving for someone else.

Suppose I told a Republican, they should read President Obama's policies and statements with gratitude and desire. You could use that with anything.

It sounds like you are saying, I know the truthfulness, now if you will want to believe it, you too will believe it.

I would rather someone read it with an open mind without pre-judging the conclusion they should come to.

          Agreed.

            • Levin,

Neanderthals are not regarded as ancestors to all Homo sapiens but as a "cousin" that interbred with some of us.

There is a tremendous number of branches on our family tree.

What I want you to tell us is how you envision God dealing with the other very similar species in our genus who were not Homo sapiens at all but fit your definition of having a soul. These are distinct animals that had families, raised their children, loved them, mourned their deaths, some of which were quite possibly obliterated in competition with our species.

I want you to tell is why only Homo sapiens had souls or whether we will be sharing the CK with non-Homo sapiens hominins that lived 2 million years ago.

Did Jesus die for the sins of australopothecines?

Don't take the bait, Levin. No matter what you answer he'll try to make you look foolish because he's so "learned" and "wise." But the scriptures are clear. Jesus died for mankind. Sooner is just trying to get you to say that we'll all be hanging out in paradise with animals like you see in some Watchtower mag.

Wrong. Cats are evil. Cat heaven is an illusion for the deceived.

Applejack, you will learn quickly that Levin is a trove of such unintentional anti-bon mots.

Many will whine that they do not like Sooner's tone, but in reality it has little to do with tone (LA ute employs respectful tone and yet so many dislike him). My take is that Sooner and Seattle frustrate the masses because they harp on the exact things for which believers have no real, rational, convincing explanations. They expose some of the admitted absurdities of religion for which there is little everyman logic. Sooner and SeattleUte know this, which is why they continue to harp on it over and over. Stormtrooper-style believers get flummoxed and saturated by these topics (whether they care to admit it or not) and I believe they project some level of their frustration with the Church (lack of good explanations to pass on to questioning members or antis) onto Sooner and Seattle. Of course, both Sooner and Seattle dont help by being overly persistent in their trolling, but more often than not, it is true that Sooner is attacked personally without any real answer to his question.

But let's be honest....if there were an answer to be had, Sooner wouldn't be asking the question. That is a basic tenet of trolling. Don't tell me my business, boys!
DDD makes a great point here. I am going to help people out who would like to turn sooner on his head: employ the same tactic. You should ask Sooner to tell us what "science" has to say about what happens to our consciousness after death. Or you should ask him to use "science" to define the meaning and purpose of human life. That'll totally stump him, like when Pres. Packer asked the angry atheist to describe the taste of salt, that is the moment you will know that you have "broken" Sooners pride.
