Your quest to make sure the poor are treated right always brings a tear to my eyes. The fact it gives you a chance help in your quest to demean the LDS church is just a by product.Originally posted by SoonerCoug View PostHow is that the solution for me? I'm not poor, and I don't participate in the Church. I want to understand why the Church demands the tithe in exchange for temple worship. I'm talking about the Mormon Church's poor tax. The poor tax that allows poor Guatemalans to attend the temple.
I do wonder though how much charity has been given to the poor by the church vs the clubs you support.

I give at least 10% of my income directly to charitable causes--the kind that don't spend it on extravagant chandeliers--not to mention the fact that I'm part of the only group of specialists in my city who accept low income patients (people with no insurance or Medicaid). But this is not supposed to be about me.
Why is the LDS Church above reproach in your mind? They make no financial data public. Why do you think that is? You would never stand for a government whose financial data wasn't public. Why do you stand for a religion that hides its finances? Because God is in charge? What kind of charity hides its finances? That which may be asserted without evidence may be dismissed without evidence. -C. Hitchens

United Way has expensive execs. American Cancer Society has a lot of administrative expenses. Which of these overly charitable organizations do you like?Originally posted by SoonerCoug View PostThe clubs I support? What are you talking about?

No, this is not supposed to be about him, so we can't have his name in the title. Yes, why do we stand for a government that doesn't (fully) disclose its budget? If it wasn't for Snowden we would have no idea that those SoBs at the NSA are spending more than India spends on its entire defense budget! But I bet India doesn't have a kick*ss "Information Dominance Center" like we do.Originally posted by SoonerCoug View PostThe clubs I support? What are you talking about?

Oh, BTW, the LDS church doesn't hide its financial information (in the United Kingdom, Canada, and other places where the laws apply for that sort of thing)."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.
