I'm thinking when the story is told - you'll be embarrassed by your hubris. I forgive you in advance - and we'll see.Originally posted by BigPiney View Post
Speaking of which. My daughter will need a NIL sponsorship when she gets back from her mission in 14 months. I'll be sure to remind you when the time comes.
It's been called a lot of things - but the Corporation of the President isn't known for being a charity.Originally posted by Moliere View PostI don’t know much about the story but if this windfall is from a company he started 40 years ago and built up, then I don’t understand what all the fuss is about. He’s going to not enjoy much of that money since he’s working 7 days a week until the day he dies. I would also expect a lot of that money will go to charitable causes.Last edited by clackamascoug; 10-18-2021, 01:55 PM.

The presence of billionaires is a moral failing of society.
However, until wealth is more evenly distributed (hasten the day), the church shouldn't punish Stevenson for the success of his business."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

You are welcome to get started on the hastening by significantly increasing the percentage of your income you give to others. In fact, you are free to make voluntary contributions to the US government to pay down the national debt - thus relieving the burden for future generations: https://www.treasurydirect.gov/govt/.../gift/gift.htm There is no better time to hasten than the present, so get hastening!
EDIT: Back in 2012 Americans donated $7.7B to reducing the national debt!Last edited by BigFatMeanie; 10-18-2021, 02:24 PM.

the sltrib piece on this is unsurprisingly a pile of financially and legally illiterate nonsense. he’s not getting paid $1b in cash and in fact will be locked up from getting liquidity for 18-24 months (think the s-1 notes a $2.5m carve out or something from the lockup). funny that they also only mention the top of the range for pricing: stevenson is subject to a $200m swing (in hypothetical dollars, of course) depending on where it prices.
and who cares if he founded the company 40 years ago or if he worked at a private equity firm that invested a month ago? in either case the transactions would be fair and square. people continue to be aggressively stupid. go take a risk, losers.Te Occidere Possunt Sed Te Edere Non Possunt Nefas Est.

I won't give the US more money that I am legally obligated to. But I also won't be too mad if tax laws are changed so I do pay more.Originally posted by BigFatMeanie View Post

I'm not surprised to get push back from that comment. But c'mon, are there any billionaires here? Is there a chance that anyone here will ever become one? I'd like to think that I'll be one someday. But then, I still haven't given up on playing QB for BYU.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View Post

what is your fix for this scenario? because if it involves people not being incentivized to take money off the table in ways that would create wealth over a threshold, that certainly threatens the livelihoods of people on this chat blog and their immediate families. by the way, bro stevenson will be paying a cool couple hundred mill in cap gains (depending on how much of this is sitting in a donor advised fund earmarked for charitable donations to the church, usu, byu, etc.)Originally posted by Northwestcoug View Post

Riled up og is the best og.
im all for higher taxes on the wealthy and certainly on people like Huntsman that inherited their wealth, but wealth isn’t a zero sum game so the presence of billionaires doesn’t mean people are starving.
and I agree the reporting in that article is awful but it’s written for a financially illiterate audience"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. If so all the more dumb, because the financially literate are the ones who will recognize that it is bs.Originally posted by Moliere View PostRiled up og is the best og.
