I don't see anything wrong, per se, with saying that there are lines we don't cross but that there is also improvement to be made. I think elder Oaks's talk actually could have laid the groundwork for what I think would be the ideal outcome: not the total dissolution of all distinctions between the genders, but recognizing the unique contributions either can make, affirming the codependence of men and women, and instructing that they are to be held as equals notwithstanding their differences.Originally posted by clackamascoug View PostAnd there's the problem. Is it better to be a hardliner and say this is how it is - deal with it, or try and pacify women by saying you are already exercising priesthood authority in your callings. By opening the door a crack, I think there will be future ramifications with Elder Oak's talk.τὸν ἥλιον ἀνατέλλοντα πλείονες ἢ δυόμενον προσκυνοῦσιν

So you think excluding women from apostleship is the ideal outcome? Did I understand you correctly? I want to get you on record.Originally posted by All-American View PostI don't see anything wrong, per se, with saying that there are lines we don't cross but that there is also improvement to be made. The Elephant in the Room is what the temple teaches about the relationships between men & women.Originally posted by SoonerCoug View PostSo you think excluding women from apostleship is the ideal outcome? Did I understand you correctly? I want to get you on record.
Not that it's appropriate to discuss here, but the actions outweigh the soothing assurances of "equal but different". (IMO)"More crazy people to Provo go than to any other town in the state."

There have already been some changes; it's safe to say there will be more.Originally posted by Solon View PostThe Elephant in the Room is what the temple teaches about the relationships between men & women.

Put me on record as saying I sustained the prophet and apostles therefore I am in agreeance with thr church's current stance.Originally posted by SoonerCoug View PostSo you think excluding women from apostleship is the ideal outcome? Did I understand you correctly? I want to get you on record.
Same with the loon on the OW website who said she would like thr main she sustained, supported and practically worshipped to look her in the eye and tell her why she can't have the priesthood. I find that somewhat ironic.

LOL. that guy is way too fidgety.Originally posted by SoonerCoug View PostWhat a tragic mistake for church leaders to encourage the average member to defend the faith:"More crazy people to Provo go than to any other town in the state."

That guy gives off a serious Jack Nicholson vibe."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

The use of the word "problem" was generic in the sense that his remarks did little to quell the situation. For the weakest of the saints like me, we need direction, and a conference talk open to interpretation like this will leave us wandering in the wilderness and worshiping golden calves for 6 more months.Originally posted by Topper View PostAnd that is a bad thing?

I've heard that people who leave the church take up drinking just about anything, and I suppose a nice pint of ormus would do wonders for the tips of your DNA. In your case, however, I never took you as a "anything helps" cardboard holder.Originally posted by Topper View PostIf you have excess gold those of us less weak know how to put it to use.

Sooner, he has a point. I think that what we are seeing is the official position of the LDS Church shift over to this guy's perspective. Notice also that this guy is over 60; typical. I predict that from now on we'll see the institution increasingly marginalized and reduced in size as ultimately it gos the way of Zoroastrians and Quakers. The LDS Church is dead men walking. It's kaput. And this conference is the official turn in that direction.Originally posted by SoonerCoug View PostWhen a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.
