  • "The Historic Announcement" speculation.

I'm guessing changes to the temple ceremony - again - and new garment choices.

On this, the 35th anniversary of the removal of the priesthood ban, the church will announce they finally figured out where the ban came from and acknowledge the documented history dealing with slavery. But they will "forget" to update their FAQ.

There is a world wide leadership training two Sundays from now (June 23) and folks are being asked to attend it live. I believe it is at 4:00 PM Mountain.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I'm glad I'm currently unemployed at church. I won't have to attend this.

Didn't the letter say it would be a missionary work training?

They're getting rid of the MTC. There will be online training available to prospective missionaries, but the onus will be placed on the missionaries to prepare sufficiently. This will save hundreds of millions of dollars each year.

It is the final training session that the new Mission Presidents will be receiving from President Monson.

We are all being invited to watch it live.

Wonder if there will be an online test to measure a prospective missionary’s preparation. For missionaries who didn't need language training, I viewed the MTC as something of a quality control measure for the Church. My MTC companion was barely literate, had not been through the temple, and was uncertain whether he had been set apart as a missionary. Move Forrest Gump from Alabama to the Ozarks of Missouri and you get the idea. Nevertheless, he had a lot of positives to offer as a missionary. But he probably could have used a little more time in the MTC to get ready for the mission field. Admit that he was the exception - his [extended] family shipped him straight from the Ozarks to to the MTC with little more than a fresh haircut and a suit. Without the MTC, this missionary would have had an even more difficult start.

The high council member in our Sacrament Meeting made such a huge deal out of it, and sold it so well, I think I'm going to go. He made is sound like it would be course changing, and you'd want to be present for the historicity of the moment. I'm sure I'll be let down, but it'll be in a meeting like this when we get the call to Missouri.

I wonder about the hype for these things. I assume it comes from well-meaning local church leaders who REALLY want their members to attend. Probably the same basis for the faith-promoting emails that I occasionally see floating around. Dumb, dumb, dumb. I'll still attend since my wife is a ward missionary, and I assume I will be invited as well. I don't expect any earth-shaking pronouncements.
