That was one of my first thoughts as well. At the very least they should have them carry Kindle Fires to make them less attractive targets.

Facebook will no longer be blocked at the church! You figured out the historic announcement.

It was never blocked on iOS devices at my warehouse.

              • I saw the story on KSL concerning this announcement. Those they interviewed seemed to feel the announcement was indeed "historic". Myself, I am not quite in the yawner camp, but when your leaders can communicate with God if they say something historic is coming, I guess I expect more.

However, I will concede it could my my problem in what I expect a "historic" event would be.

I don't recall it being blocked at mine either. Of course, I always use my personal VPN back to my home network just to keep L. Tom and the boys from seeing me on CS.

Crap, I didn't think of that. I was already a little worried about this.

                    • I didn't attend the broadcast. For those that did, what do you see as the purpose for inviting every member to tune in? The church building where we attended 1:00 sacrament meeting was totally packed as we were leaving at 3:00.

Part of me thinks one reason it was made public is so that now whenever missionaries are caught hanging out on facebook and on message boards, instead of disapproving glares from members they will now get a wink and a thumbs up for magnifying their callings and preaching the word.

Back in my BYU days I'd use SSH port forwarding on my machine at home to get past BYU firewalls/filtering.

I think that is part of it.

The other part is so that the members know that when the WML calls or someone from WC calls looking for some help...they are just following the council they were given.

I don't know if Facebook was blocked at our building, but YouTube being blocked made for a tough time for a family history teacher a few months back. That's what she gets for trying to spice up the lessons with multimedia from the Church's YouTube channel.

Also, you may have circumvented L. Tom's prying eyes, but General Clapper can still see what you're doing.
