I ran across that site recently (anti videos show up every time you are looking at church-related Youtubes). I foolishly made a comment, chiding who ever made the video for the dishonesty and deception obviously required to capture the footage, and boy, did I ever get responses from some pretty unhinged people. Big mistake.

I'm kinda surprised this is allowed to stay up on Youtube. Does this bother anybody?

You and I may be struck by lightning for this but I tend to agree. Imagine if Catholic services, with all the robes and incense, were kept secret. How weird would that seem when people finally saw them? It would not surprise me to see the secrecy ended. Meanwhile, I applaud Pelagius for not allowing the vid here.Originally posted by Pheidippides View PostI'm with you. The effort to kept it secret just makes it all that much more interesting to some folks, and effectively means you only have one side - the side mocking - willing to talk about it.“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

I am going to use this opportunity to bump an old thread:

The whole concept of keeping a religious ritual secret is not compatible with the internet age. We are only keeping it secret from ourselves, which seems odd and counterproductive if you ask me."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

I don't known what the responses were, but I think you lashed out at the wrong things. What he did is disrespectful. As for the dishonestly and deception, meh.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostI ran across that site recently (anti videos show up every time you are looking at church-related Youtubes). That's the exact comparison I thought of too. Look, back in the day when there were all the penalties and blood oaths and stuff, I can understand why you'd want to keep it secret - but even that has been a matter of public record since 1906 or something. It's already out there anyway; let's stop freaking out about it.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostYou and I may be struck by lightning for this but I tend to agree. Reminds me of the time (this is like 12 years ago) when my MIL found some garments on sale on eBay. Actually, she just forwarded a mass emailing bringing attention to the listing. And then everybody freaked out and started bidding on them to take them out of circulation, only everybody ended up bidding against all the other Mormons doing the same thing and they sold for like $400. Hey, you want to incentivize the guy to do it again? 100 percent profit is an awesome way to do it. Just chill the f out, people.Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

Meh...projecting mortal feelings onto God. God* doesn't care about being mocked any more than you do when your kindergarten age son's friend makes fun of you, probably much less. Oh, and He's not a jealous God either.Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostThat line of "God will not be mocked" has always hit me fairly hard when I hear it. Stuff like this makes me wonder what kind of consequence might occur to someone for using this to mock Him. Of course, he is forgiving too. It doesn't bother me, really, though. If people want to know, better they know via a video than from trying to barge in ir sneak in and see it themselves, mostly because when I go there, I just want to be able to reflect on what's troubling my soul, and not wonder if people are there as tourist/voyeurs. The temple is a place where I can go and not have to worry/wonder what others are thinking of me. That's why it's so special.

The terminology is consistent with era during which it was generated. It seems out of date today. Whether God can be mocked or not is unknowable to me. My opinion: I think God wouldn't want to be mocked, and I wouldn't want to mock God. But I don't trust another human's opinion of whether or not I'm mocking God.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostMeh...projecting mortal feelings onto God. yeah, my bad. It is the second video to pop up on youtube if you search "mormon".Originally posted by jay santos View Postbtw, I'm glad the video was taken down. STLCoug is now in dabrockster territory when it comes to posting inappropriate videos.
Also the dude going through with the cameras and posting the videos is pretty open with his personal info on his youtube channel, Mike Norton, Ogden Utah. He even gives out his cell phone number.

It's just interesting to me that most of our youth will know exactly what happens in the temple before they go through now (i'm sure I would have watched if a similar video had been so readily available when I was a teen)....but maybe that's not a bad thing.Last edited by STLcoug; 06-05-2013, 01:08 PM.

Then I don't want to spend eternity trying to become like him (or hang out with Him). The time I've spent worrying about what other people say or think about me has only brought me...well, worry/angst. I also don't like being around people like that. Why do I want that for eternity?Originally posted by jay santos View PostMy opinion: I think God wouldn't want to be mocked, and I wouldn't want to mock God. So...I'm not going to worship a God that "WILL NOT BE MOCKED".
