I have no idea how anyone would ever come to the conclusion that you weren't a believer, my bad. All this time the 100's of negative posts fooled me. I shouldn't be so quick to judge.Originally posted by ERCougar View Postwhere did I say it was all a bunch of crap? or a pack of lies? or called anything nonsense?
I'm pretty happy with my life and my involvement the church deserves a lot of that credit. the better question is why do you care that i care?

You're right. Debating religion on a religious message board doesn't make any sense at all.Originally posted by Tone Loc View PostThis forum is group therapy for apostates. If you really don't believe anymore why can't you leave it alone and walk away? Are you concerned about the believers eternal souls? If so, what alternative path would you suggest for them?

Child please. There is a difference between expressing sincere doubt and the incessant whining and criticism that takes place here. For as smart as people think they are here how long is it going to take them to figure out that it may not completely line up exactly how you want it to. If Jesus himself came down and told half the people here face to face that its true they would dismiss it because he didnt explain how he glew in the dark and was able to hover over the ground.Originally posted by Portland Ute View PostThe Church has too many lukewarm members and Ton Loc wants to spit them out.
Do yourself a favor, stop complaining and pointing out every little problem you have with the church. Put your big boy pants on and get to work. The real value is in the work. Heaven knows you have the time and energy just take a look at the amount spent here.

Tone Def, you're in over your head. I suggest you bow out and find more constructive ways to spend your time than rather than call the heathens to repentance.Originally posted by Tone Loc View PostChild please. Interesting I have had people on mission who called for free videos to show us things we believe. Of course Adam God thing is we don't believe that and By was not perfect taught a host of eternal truths though. Elohim came down and fornicated with Mary, Blacks followed Lucifer in the Pre Existence are some things I have heard. Easy to find someone dead and in a book called sustaining and defending the faith Joseph McConkie and Robert Millett said longer someone dead easier to criticize it. Easy thing is we don't believe those things.
I quoted herbalist on here who found quotes that we don't need doctors if we have faith. Contrary to what I have been taught. John Taylor said Public Schools will keep your kids out of the Celestial Kingdom. An interesting person in our ward was always quoting that. Seeks to teach High Priests and GD has some interesting ideas. Thing is JD is not scripture and some bs. A lot of crazy statements in there used by anti's and Latter day Protestants. LDP"s are people that believe revelation ceased around 100 years ago while Protestants believed it ceased 100 years after Christ. One group uses Bible for interpretation, Other uses JD and dead prophets.
One on www.mormonchronicle.com talked about obey they law no matter what it is in one of the back pages of articles and many quotes to break the law since it is unconstitutional. Thing is they used pre manifesto quotes. Commit suicide to get to Telestial Kingdom that has been debunked. There are some either inaccurate statements made by church leaders or things just not true. I know the revelation they share is perfect though they make a few mistakes. Strengthens my faith that the Lord uses them. Some was revelation to there time as well. Also did Symonds Ryder leave over misspelled name and did Thomas Marsh fight over Milk or was that just excuse more to stories than that?

I agree, but it doesn't necessarily make it alright in my mind.....but I don't expect it to ever be right.Originally posted by Harry Tic View PostThere's the key right there.
Grape, you need to post more often. It's always interesting to see what your take is.
Personally, Niku's Ratatouille comparison is by far the best I've seen when dealing with some of these issues."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Its always bothered when folks don't admit they are/were wrong. Not only does it bother me when church leaders don't admit they were wrong, but it almost bothers me even more when church members make up excuses for what the church leader said as if they were the errant church leader themselves. I guess it just comes with the territory when you think you are right and everybody else is wrong.

This is the one I use and I am very comfortable with it. The Prophets have always been imperfect. The law given by the Old Testament prophets was the old law and renewed, revised, adapted, whatever by Jesus.
If I am going to accept the frailties of the prophets in the Bible, why can't I cut some slack for the current day prophets. The hang up, in my opinion, is with the group of members who feel that every word or deed uttered by the "brethern" is what God himself is saying. I am comfortable with them believing that if they wish even though in my mind that is just plain horse crap.
I listen to what they say, ponder it, think about it and yes if it is important enough to me, pray about it. Then I do what I feel I should.

Except people don't discuss things here. They proclaim their position in a way that makes it clear that there is no other logical viewpoint. Discussions usually involve sharing opinions and perspectives, and agreeing to disagree respectively. Discussions don't begin with "Does any normal member still believe XXX?," or "Shame on people for believing XXX." Those kinds of statements are common here, and pretty much discussion killers. All that's left is an echo chamber of people trying to outdo one another in their indignation.Originally posted by Danimal View PostYou're right.
